Job Description Summary

Lead the design transfer of New Product Introduction of gradient coils from Florence to manufacturing plant. Own and develop the control design of new gradient coils through all stages of NPI lifecycle, from design inputs to V&V testing of new product. Participate in the design of prototypes, R&D and custom made gradient coils improving design, manufacturing, reliability and cost optimization. Design and implement manufacturing improvements to custom and production gradient coils to enhance performance, reliability, manufacturability efficiency and reduce cost.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design transfer of new Gradient Coil NPI in Florence to production plants coordinating actions with Advanced manufacturing, manufacturing and production teams.

  • Lead the design of new gradient coils, supporting EM design, manufacturing and product design and testing of gradient coils.

  • Lead the coordination of the different phases of Gradient Design with manufacturing, integrating design improvements for manufacturability and large-scale production in Monterrey.

  • Lead and control the product design of new gradient coils including design inputs/outputs (drawings, DRF’s, BOM’s, etc.), product design change control and Product technical risks identification, management, retirement plan and execution.

  • Develop Gradient coil Testing plan including verification, validation, execution, reports and issue/problem tracking and resolution.

  • Lead Design reviews including peer reviews, IDR’s, TDR’s, FDR’s, and execution of the design review plan along with driving closure of action items.

  • Participate in the Design, develop and build of prototypes and custom gradient coils optimizing and leveraging design and manufacturing processes on complex assemblies of gradient processes including soldering, brazing, Vacuum process impregnation and Epoxy curing processes, consistent with gradient coil manufacturing processes for high volume gradient coils.

  • Evaluates and proposes new developments in assembly, heavy wire winding, brazing, soldering, vacuum/pressure potting tooling and equipment and experience with room temperature and elevated temperature potting resins for custom- low volume gradient coils.

  • Participate in many phases of the product development life cycle, from concept and product specification generation, to manufacturing ramp up and manufacturing production support, optimizing functionality, manufacturability, reliability, serviceability, and cost.

  • Conducts research and development investigations, Root cause analysis, Experiment and test plan development to support Supply Chain change requests and alternate materials to meet production goals.

  • Establishes assembly and manufacturing procedures to guide production and electrical assemblies to specification restrictions.

  • Work with teams located on other sites to convert procedures and instructions from English to Spanish

  • Participate in product safety, cost out, cycle time reduction and quality enhancement projects.

  • Support the manufacturing plant and the Installed Base.

  • Support and comply with the quality and safety goals of GE Healthcare (GEHC).

  • Aware of and comply with the GEHC Quality Manual, Quality Management System, Quality Management Policy, Quality Goals, and applicable laws and regulations as they apply to this job type/position.

  • Complete all planned Quality & Compliance training within the defined deadlines Identify and report any quality or compliance concerns and take immediate corrective action as required

Required Qualifications:

  • ​Bachelors Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or Related Field

  • 5+ years of experience with gradient coil design, gradient manufacturing and production processes.

  • 1+ Experience in LSD roles, for NPI gradient coils.

  • 5+ Experience with VPI process and Epoxy curing processes.

  • Spanish and English 100% conversational and written skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands on hardware experience with gradient coil or other large conventional electro-magnet coils.

  • Direct design experience of electro-magnetic resin impregnated coils.

  • Experience specifying large scale tooling, or tooling design.

  • Flexibility in handling challenging, multi-tasking workload.

  • Experience in numerical analysis tools and optimization methods.

  • Leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Capability to generate innovative concepts.

  • Statistical analytical skills.

  • Familiar with wet winding and FRP tube manufacture.
