Job Summary

Grande Cheese Company in Fond du Lac, WI is searching for an analytically minded scientist with a passion for data driven solutions to fill our available role of Scientist II - Starter Culture. In this role you will conduct scientific experiments in starter culture characterization, fermentation, cheese-making, and bacteriophage studies. Additionally, you will be involved in trouble-shooting production issues and improving starter production processes across our Wisconsin based manufacturing facilities. Highly qualified candidates will have experience working with lactic acid bacteria and dairy fermentation. What you need to be considered for the role:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology, Food Science or other related field required; Master's Degree in Microbiology, Food Science or other related field preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree and two (2) or more years of related experience in the dairy industry, preferably in starter culture microbiology (lactic acid bacteria); or

  • Master’s degree, with internship or other experience in the dairy industry (preferably in starter culture) preferred.

  • Experience with lactic acid bacteria and other microbiological systems strongly preferred.

  • Project Management training preferred.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining focus on departmental priorities

  • Experience with molecular microbiology methods

  • Scientific knowledge base in microbiology, genetics, biochemistry or related scientific fields

  • Knowledge of the microbiology, genetics, and applications of lactic acid bacteria is desirable.

  • Good laboratory and research skills.
