Role Overview:

The Outreach Specialist will engage out-of-school, low-income youth (ages 16-24) and provide them with alternative education and employment pathways. This role involves offering ongoing counseling, advocacy, and guidance to help participants meet their personal and program goals, including obtaining a high school equivalency diploma, advancing toward post-secondary education or career-oriented employment, and taking responsibility for their families and communities.

Primary Responsibilities:

Community Outreach:

  • Conduct outreach and community activities to increase referrals and visibility for Young Adult programs.

  • Evaluate prospective participants' eligibility using screening criteria.

  • Assist in recruiting young adults by identifying sources, delivering presentations, screening applicants, and collecting documentation.

  • Track and assess recruitment activities to refine outreach strategies.

  • Perform intensive outreach, including home and street visits, to engage unresponsive participants.

Administrative Accountabilities:

  • Ensure enrollment applications are complete, accurate, and submitted promptly.

  • Create marketing materials and manage content across social media platforms.

  • Collaborate with staff to plan and implement student engagement events, service projects, and community meetings.

  • Attend and contribute to team meetings, case conferences, and relevant events as assigned.

Relationship Building and Participant Engagement:

  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with referral agencies.

  • Connect participants with service providers for additional resources.

  • Assess and address the personal needs of participants, providing support as needed.

  • Support leadership development activities and assist with individual and group counseling.

  • Advocate with various systems (e.g., human services, health, court) to resolve issues facing participants.

  • Foster a positive program culture through effective relationship building and teamwork.

  • Participate in consortium meetings and other collaborative efforts.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Undertake special projects and additional duties as required to support program needs and comply with contract guidelines.

  • Perform intensive outreach including community engagement events, career fairs, and street outreach.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

  • 2-3 years of relevant work experience.

  • Knowledge of Queens and ZIP codes: 11416, 11417, 11419, 11432, 11433, 11434, 11435, 11367, 11355.

  • Strong understanding of community resources and service availability.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with effective presentation abilities.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Publisher.

  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
