Queens Community House SYEP Job Developer in Forest Hills, New York

Position: Job Developer

Compensation: $24.04 - $26.44 per hour

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Location: Flushing, NY

As a Job Developer for the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP), you will play a critical role in developing worksite relationships and securing job placements for participants. SYEP is a New York City program that connects youth aged 14-24 with career exploration opportunities and paid work experience each summer. This role involves developing strong relationships with participants, recruiting and onboarding internship sites, and providing coaching and support to help youth achieve long-term career goals.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with participants to support their successful employment.

  • Achieve enrollment targets for internships and secure suitable placements for participants.

  • Recruit and onboard internship sites aligned with participants’ interests and career goals.

  • Provide direct support and coaching to youth and adults with limited work history and educational attainment.

  • Assist clients in developing social skills and work habits that lead to long-term employment and career advancement.

  • Advocate for clients by collaborating with agency staff, local businesses, and community organizations to create job leads.

  • Complete detailed reporting, including tracking and reports, client and employer databases, and retention trackers.

  • Ensure timely data entry on funder portals and adhere to deadlines.

  • Work closely with Summer Youth and DOE Partnered Schools to coordinate referrals and support clients in achieving their educational and employment goals.

  • Attend training and staff meetings as required.

  • Travel to internship sites and attend job fairs and recruitment events as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services or a related field preferred.

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in workforce development, recruiting, or human resources, preferably with opportunity youth.

  • Sensitivity and ability to work with diverse populations, including immigrants, young adults, single parents, English language learners, and low-income individuals.

  • Demonstrated success in a goal-driven environment, achieving monthly targets.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to conduct meetings, training, and group sessions effectively.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and familiarity with Microsoft applications (Sheets, Docs, Slides), as well as PDF navigation.

  • Experience with DYCD-Workforce contracts and databases such as YEPS preferred.

  • Experience in Healthcare, Construction, or IT industries a plus.
