U.S. Army Sustainment Command Transportation Assistant (Office Automation) in Fort Belvoir, Virginia

About the Position: This position serves as Transportation Assistant for Department of Defense (DOD) personnel regarding the shipment, receipt and/or storage of personal property and household goods. Provides advice and information to military personnel, DOD civilian personnel and their dependents regarding receipt of personal property. Responsibilities Determines entitlements of military personnel, their dependents, and civilian employees in connection with domestic and international shipment, delivery, storage, diversion, and reshipment of household goods. Gives advice relative to entitlements and responsibilities in connection with shipment applications. Reviews applications, orders, and other documents for completeness, accuracy, and legality of entitlements. Computes excess cost for service members released from active duty who have shipments that are overweight or have excess distance. Collects excess costs from service member when warranted. Arranges for property to be released for shipment. Receives and reviews advance shipping documents to determine appropriate arrangement and disposition. Considers estimated weight, cost factors, origin, destination, current regulations, and interests of the government and owner in determining mode of shipment. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Providing assistance advising property owners regarding shipment of personal property, AND 2) Maintaining shipping records or documentation, AND 3) Knowledge of transportation operation systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
