Summary About the Position: This is a Materials Handler (Motor Vehicle Operator/ Forklift Operator), WG-6907-06 position in Fort Detrick, Maryland Responsibilities Receives all incoming property book items for the hand receipt holders and acquisition personnel. Assists in the distribution of items. Plan workload upon estimated delivery date, updates files, and processes receipts. Manages warehouse to include the facility, forklift, scooter, office equipment and material handling equipment. Operates a forklift with up to a 6,000-pound capacity to load, unload, and store bulky items. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Materials Handler (Forklift Operator) without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common warehousing duties. I can receive supply, store supply, move supply to proper lot, verify accuracy of supply, and report discrepancies. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. Dexterity and Safety Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) Physical Effort: Normal work assignments frequently involve lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 35 pounds. May lift or carry heavier items using mechanical devices or other assistance. Situations may require long periods of standing, bending, lifting and occasionally working in cramped and awkward positions. Working Conditions: Most work is performed indoors in the property book warehouse that is well lighted, heated, and clean; however, this area may be occasionally drafty and noisy. Subject to cuts and minorabrasions. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
