Essential Functions and Competencies

  • Plans, organizes, and schedules service technician teamwork in a manner that personnel and equipment are used in the most efficient manner to complete projects, resolve technical issues, and prevent problems in order to maximize customer satisfaction.
  • Fairly and consistently cross-trains, and provides insights to evaluate, service technician staff in a manner that helps the department and City achieve performance goals in a positive, customer-focused culture that continually improves.
  • Assures that all work performed in the unit meets the Citys standards for customer service excellence, accuracy, quality, and efficiency including that work performed is done in accordance with OSHA safety standards and compliant with all City personnel and safety policies.
  • Establishes and maintains an effective working relationship with employees, City officials, contractors, customers, and the general public. Supports activities of the department to assure that appropriate communication and coordination of efforts occurs with other units of the City.
  • Collaborates with the Customer Experience team to ensure that service technician work conforms to customer service standards of excellence and performance expectations.
  • Serves in a technology consultative role with customers as required.
  • Recommends, procures, and purchases appropriate equipment, services, supplies, for the department.
  • Complies with policies and procedures specific to the department pertaining to outside plant operations. Identifies and recommends solutions for issues and problems, including providing guidance and assistance with system troubleshooting as needed.
  • Maintains up to date documentation of the network and monitoring system maps.
  • Oversees work done by service contract providers.
  • Configures, installs, and maintains network infrastructure and equipment.
  • Provides technical customer support services to subscribers of commercial and residential communication products, as well as wholesale Internet and phone service providers.
  • Attends workshops and training seminars to maintain up-to-date knowledge of various products, materials, procedures, and equipment used in the performance of duties.
  • Responds to after-hours emergencies 24/7.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of relevant job experience, and general knowledge of, networks and associated hardware platforms in the field of telecommunications (phone, internet, or television). Includes experience in construction, low voltage wiring, cabling, and installation of customer premise equipment.
  • Overall excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must pass a post employment offer background check, physical examination and drug screen.
  • Valid State driver's license, including a DMV record that is deemed acceptable by the City.Must meet the requirements of the Citys motor vehicle policy. Must be insurable and maintain insurability.
  • Must maintain residency within fifteen (15) miles of the corporate limits of Fort Dodge Residency to be established within sixty (60) days of placement.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate (orally in person and over the telephone and in writing using electronic devices and handwritten) in English with other employees, businesses and community members.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent.
  • Relevant industry experience working at a retail telecommunications provider.
