Position Summary

Spectrum Certifications Engineer

Are you ready to join the team that ensures the Navy and Marines are equipped with the most advanced and reliable wireless communication systems? As a Spectrum Certification Engineer at the Navy Marine Corps Spectrum Center at Ft Meade, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our military stays connected and secure.

Our Spectrum Certification Engineers support the execution of the National Level spectrum certification process for mission critical systems. You will be responsible for testing and certifying wireless devices and systems for compliance with military regulations, ensuring that they operate safely and effectively in the radio spectrum. You will work with cutting-edge technology and collaborate with a team of engineers to conduct complex tests and analyses.

As a Spectrum Certification Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of wireless devices and systems, from radios and antennas to satellite communications and unmanned aerial vehicles. You will also work closely with military contractors and manufacturers, helping them to design and develop products that meet military requirements.

What you will do:

  • Reviews submitted DD Form 1494's/EL-CID, Application for Equipment Frequency Allocation, for completeness, correctness, and consistency.

  • Compares requested allocation bands with ITU and US Tables of Frequency Allocations contained in the NTIA Manual of Regulations and Procedures for Federal Radio Frequency Management.

  • Proactively coordinates with Service field spectrum agencies to provide guidance on the specific coordination requirements and ensure the system processing status is visible to the program offices through each stage.

  • Works closely with SPO Program Managers and Project Engineers to verify system data supplied on DD Form 1494/EL-CID for validity and logical consistency.

  • Submits applications to and coordinates with the NTIA-SPS to obtain their certification of spectrum support.

  • Prepares Military Communications-Electronics Board (MCEB) guidance memorandums for signature by the Chairman of the MCEB ESG PWG.

  • Prepares Host Nation Coordination Requests (HNCR) to support geographical Combatant Command (COCOM) radio frequency equipment.

What we are looking for:

  • 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.

  • Demonstrated command of engineering principles, methods, and techniques in area of expertise.

  • Advanced knowledge of relevant tools, equipment, hardware, and software.

  • Effective customer and organizational level communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite programs, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • An Active Secret Level Clearance is required in order to be considered

Preferred Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related scientific discipline plus 5 to 7 years relevant work experience.

  • Master's degree preferred. Degree(s) must be in engineering, computer science, mathematics or a related discipline.

Physical Requirements

  • May require working in an office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environment.
