Summary A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government (Civil Service) is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected. This position is in the Maintenance Division at Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park, located in Fort Oglethorpe, Catoosa County, Georgia. Responsibilities Performing extensive carpentry on non-historic and historic structures according to federally defined guidelines. Performing dock repairs as well as building new docks to include crib structures, shore connectors, bank retaining structures, and floating docks. Performing trail clearing operations on land-based hiking trails, cross country ski trails, snowshoe trails, and snowmobile portage trail systems parkwide. The incumbent will also be responsible for winter operations which will include grooming the land-based trail systems as well as the established ice-based trail systems by utilizing a snowmobile, a side-by-side with tracks, and the larger groomer with various drag attachments for each. Other duties will include working with staff with ice checking operations, plowing ice roads with a pickup truck and plow attachment, as well as snow removal at visitor centers walkways and parking lots parkwide. Assisting shop mechanics with associated tasks related to services and repairs when requested. Delivering equipment to dealerships for warranty work and specialty services. Shuttling equipment and materials to various work sites within the park. Assisting with the support of various utility operations and repairs as well as road repair projects. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. You will be required to complete a one-year trial period. Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. Physical Demands: Physical effort is heavy to moderate, and requires occasional lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 50 pounds, unassisted, following proper lifting procedures to avoid injury. Frequently required to stand while working, climb ladders or scaffolding, and bend, stoop, climb, and work in awkward positions.
