In Controls & Avionics Solutions (CAS), you will have the opportunity to help define and develop the next generation of avionics for both commercial and military platforms whether it is fly-by-wire flight controls, full authority digital engine controls, or power management.

As a result, we are seeking a highly experienced Contracts Director who have demonstrated the ability of leading and managing a broad and complex portfolio of programs throughout the project lifecycle.

Because this role involves a combination of collaborative/in-person and independent work, it will

take the form of a hybrid work format, with time split between working onsite and remotely.

BAE Systems is looking for a motivated and experienced Contracts professional to join our Controls and Avionics Solutions (CAS) Business to lead the Engines Systems (ES) Product Line Contracts organization. This person will be a part of the core ES leadership team helping to develop and implement the business strategy. The successful candidate should have experience with commercial, international and military contracts, change proposals and program pursuits, as well as a strong business acumen of strategic planning and financial compliance. This dynamic, growing area includes two joint ventures, which the successful candidate will have a significant role leading, as well as a large aftermarket business supporting 600 airlines across the globe.Some products are jointly produced with Safran Electronics in France, and production includes facilities in both the United States and Mexico.The successful candidate will lead all contracting activities for this Product Line with minimal supervision. This Director will lead a team resident in both Endicott, New York, Fort Wayne Indiana and remote individuals.

This position will be responsible for ensuring compliance with company policies, legal and customer requirements with limited guidance or supervision of the Business Area Director of Contracts. The successful candidate will need to interpret and communicate business commitments and alternatives to the Product Line Management team and the Contracts management organization. This position requires an extensive knowledge of Commercial and U.S. Government acquisition and execution environment, applicable laws and regulations and the ability to develop and maintain professional and dependable relationships with both internal and external customers. Lastly, the selected candidate should have prior history with management of personnel.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to support staffing, training, mentoring and performance management of Contracting professionals to ensure effective staffing and growth. Collaborates with business partners to build and nurture a supportive and inclusive team that utilizes best practice talent management approaches. Leads by example by showing compassion and care when mentoring, coaching, training and providing feedback to team.

  • Provide leadership and guidance for Contract Administratorsto drive effective contract and performance execution to help organization deliver positive financial performance throughout all acquisition phases to include complex development and production contracts through overseeing and directing daily contractual activities, providing guidance on contractual/business issues, assisting with strategies and recommendations, solving complex contractual and programmatic issues, etc.

  • Independently lead and manage their team s proposal activities including analysis of solicitations, assisting in preparing proposals, developing strategies and recommendations, preparing terms and conditions, conducting business risk assessment, completing negotiations, and drafting of contract terms.

  • Ability to interact with the team to gather, interpret, analyze, develop and recommended strategies and present information. Advise the ES leadership team of contractual rights and obligations, risk mitigation alternatives, program issues, and business strategy. Ensuring that all contractual arrangements offer the Company a reasonable probability of accomplishing the business objectives.

  • Develop relationships with senior supply chain leaders at our customers. Lead negotiations and customer visits when required for the Product Line.

  • Maintain and demonstrate a working understanding of the Commercial and U.S. Government acquisition and procurement environments, the BAE Systems Contracts function and relevant Company policies and procedures, Commercial Contracting methods and practices, export and FAR/DFARS regulations.

  • Required Skills and Education:

  • Proven track record of negotiating contracts

  • Ability to work a broad portfolio of programs sizes and types, organize and develop their team to support the business

  • Ability to work effectively as a people leader and as a team member

  • Ability to make independent decisions and close actions

  • Commercial and U.S. Governmentknowledge and experience

  • Strong knowledge and practical experience with change management and intellectual property protection strategies and policies.

  • Prior experience managing and developing staff including successor development

  • Ability to work effectively with global customer base

  • Demonstrated experience working with a diverse, multi-discipline teams in a high tempo environment

  • Strong written and verbal skills

  • Exhibit sound interpersonal skills involving interfacing, coordinating and negotiating with company personnel and customersat high organizational levels

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Bachelor Degree and 12 years of relevant experience

  • Experience in international contracts

  • Joint Venture experience

  • Interest in progressive roles and future career growth across Contracts function

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $128100 - $217800

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
