Summary
With extensive supervision, plans and designs the orderly and economic expansion of the electric system to meet present and future demand while providing high quality, reliable electric service at a competitive cost.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Directly or through others, the incumbent will:
Accurately develop and maintain complex computer models of the electric delivery system that are used to simulate the operation of the electric delivery system.
Prepare cost effective system expansion plans using good engineering practices.
Resolve electric system issues and effectively communicate detailed documentation and plans of a complex design with other work groups.
Incorporate employee and public safety as a priority into the design and operation of all projects.
Effectively manage a significant number of projects while maintaining work product quality, consistency, accuracy and reliability.
Develop new processes and tools that benefit the group in the analysis of the electric system and multiple large data sets of historical operating conditions.
Promote environmental responsibility, corporate citizenship, and ethical conduct while setting a standard of excellence.
Maintain a current knowledge of electric utility rules, technical, administrative and regulatory requirements for reliable, safe operation of the system.
Work independently and be able to train and coach newer less experienced engineers.
Ability to apply analysis to identify the best solution to a technical problem, and to effectively communicate and commit to a course of action that is consistent with all legal, regulatory, code, standard, or other requirements as well as corporate policies and procedures
Perform power flow studies using CYME including creating and maintaining underlying databases
High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office software including PowerPoint, Word and Excel with VBA skills
Technical decision making, good interpersonal skills, organization skills, and effective oral and written communication skills
Software Automation and Scripting is a plus
Maintain a current knowledge of electric utility rules, technical, administrative and regulatory requirements for reliable, safe operation of the system.
Performs all essential aspects and functions of the job as well as any other specific job requirements.
Education, Experience, & Skills
• Education - Four Year Engineering degree.
• Experience - 2 years of relevant utility experience at Oncor.
• Skill - Ability to apply analysis to identify the best solution to a technical problem, and to effectively communicate and commit to a course of action that is consistent with all legal, regulatory, code, standard, or other requirements as well as corporate policies and procedures.
Engineer
• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering required
• EIT with ability to become registered PE in Texas
• Two years of applicable electric utility experience preferred
• Distribution planning work experience preferred
• Ability to work with moderate supervision
Staff Engineer
• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering required
• EIT with ability to become registered PE in Texas soon
• Four years of applicable electric utility experience preferred
• Distribution planning work experience preferred
• Ability to work as an individual contributor, team member or team leader
Senior Engineer
• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering required
• Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas
• Six years of applicable electric utility experience preferred
• Distribution planning work experience preferred
• Ability to lead, direct, train and motivate others
Measures of Success
• Technical issues are timely and effectively resolved, documented, and communicated.
• Recommended solutions meet all legal, regulatory, and safety requirements.
