Location/Division Specific Information

Position will report to the Frederick, MD site, and will support the Clinical Sequencing Division (CSD) business unit.

Discover Impactful Work:

We are seeking a Sr. Staff Scientist to support the Clinical Sequencing Division (CSD) organization and technical sourcing initiatives. You will serve as a Tech Ops and Project Management leader on projects that drive in-source, resource, and VAVE initiatives

A Day in the Life:

  • Collaborate with suppliers, R&D, and other Thermo Fisher locations.

  • Work with R&D and Operations to improve the supplier selection process and support long-term product lifecycle views.

  • Participate in cost-saving activities and funnel build initiatives. Support ideation to prospect, evaluate, and prepare project scopes and launch new projects.

  • Collaborate with finance to forecast savings, estimate costs, and project timelines.

  • Drive work streams within productivity business systems (PPI/PPV), business continuity, and quality.

  • Partner with the Procurement organization to evaluate the capability of new and existing suppliers to meet our requirements.

  • Travel up to 30% globally.

Keys to Success:

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or equivalent) required.

  • Technical graduate degree preferred.

Experience

  • 8 years of relevant experience in manufacturing sciences, technical sourcing, or other technical role required, ideally in the biotech industry.

  • Experience with product design, product development, and manufacturing.

  • Experience in Diagnostic or Regulated Environments.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Strong project management skills.

  • Knowledge of ERP systems (e.g., SAP and E1).

  • Expertise in value engineering and process development.

  • Ability to work within a highly matrixed organization.

  • Proficiency in cost modeling and what-if analysis.

  • Solid understanding of molecular biology, chemistry, and/or biology preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in Maryland is $130,000.00–$194,950.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
