Job Description:
Duties/Responsibilities
Accurately and timely documents patient assessments, interventions, evaluates overall response of patient/family.
patient/family response to care, and revises the plan of care as needed, along with any patient/family education.
Assists with post-operative Physical Therapy protocols and research / standard of care questionnaires assignments based on patient/diagnosis.
Effectively assists in the prevention, assessment and treatment of sports related injury by providing brace fittings, functional assessments, home exercise programs, etc.
Coordinates outside therapy and other referrals for patient families as needed.
Enters orders and referrals as delegated by the provider or standing policy
Performs telephone triage assessment to manage a patient/parent/guardian call to determine the urgency of the medical issue, appropriate recommendation for care and intervention (with escalation to provider as appropriate), and timing of appointment scheduling, if needed.
Provides individualized patient/parent education utilizing input from the family
Communicates sport-specific education and limitations with athletic trainers, coaches, etc.
Takes responsibility for own professional development, asking questions to gain professional insight, enhance clinical skills and function as an effective part of the team.
Participates in educational events & serves as a preceptor for new staff
Accountable for meeting the standards of patient/personal safety and in maintaining a clean and therapeutic environment
Assists clinic staff with administrative needs
Maintains patient information and documentation in electronic medical record
Abides by organizational and HIPAA guidelines, privacy practices, patient confidentiality, and patient rights
Supports hospital and departmental performance improvement goals
Supports quality care through compliance with departmental and organizational policies and guidelines, and external agency guidelines, standards, or regulations
Supports departmental initiatives and change efforts
Practices financial and resource stewardship
Engages in strong communication, acts as team player in supporting mission and vision of organization, and abides by organization’s core values
Additional duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities
Bachelor’s degree in an athletic training program or related field required
National Athletic Trainer’s Association certification required
License in the state of Texas required
BLS required
Minimum 1-2 years of experience preferred
