FM Consultant Engineer II - Pulp and Paper in FRISCO, Texas

FM is currently seeking a consultant engineer with technical industry experience, preferably within the pulp & paper industry , to conduct risk assessments and consult with clients to help neutralize potential disasters – saving property and businesses. This position is based in one of the following: Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, East Texas, Houston, or Southern Louisiana (working remotely from a home office) and reporting to the FM Global Dallas office.

Initially, assignments will be of limited scope and complexity giving you the opportunity to learn FM's loss prevention expertise with the support of experienced mentors and a structured engineering training program. You will gradually begin assessing risks at larger complex industrial sites. Learning and developing continues throughout your career, with promotion and growth opportunities, in a variety of technical career paths.

The person in this position will assist FM clients in physically protecting their large industrial and commercial properties against fire, explosion, earthquake, collapse, windstorm, mechanical and electrical breakdown, and many other hazards. This will include conducting in-depth risk assessments of key equipment, such as black liquor recovery boilers, paper machines, Yankee dryers, pulp dryers, turbines, generators, and digesters.

They will work with clients to accurately assess risk and communicate conclusions to develop sound loss prevention recommendations in order to manage the exposures inherent to their physical property business processes. Once a solution is agreed upon, the candidate will develop mutual, tailored, long-term and short-term risk improvement strategies and help manage change through to completion. In order to stay abreast of new developments in the field, this person will receive frequent technical training that involves independent and classroom study.

The individual will be expected to work independently and should be willing to operate from a home office. An average of 25-40% overnight travel is expected. (dependent on geography)

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in chemical, mechanical, or fire protection engineering

  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience (pulp & paper industry preferred)

  • Familiarity with professional organizations such as the Technical Association of the Pulp & Paper Industry (TAPPI), Black Liquor Recovery Boiler Advisory Committee (BLRBAC) and American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) is preferred

  • An eagerness to learn across a broad range of industries and types of hazards.

  • Good analytical, organizational, problem solving, and interpersonal skills

  • Independent and focused within a home office environment, with strong planning and time management skills with minimal supervision.

  • Results driven and self-motivated are a must

  • Solid technical aptitude including diverse knowledge of engineering principles

  • Strong verbal and written English communications skills

  • Proficient in MS Office products

  • Physically able to lift 25 pounds, able to climb ladders, and experience heights.

  • Authorization to work in the US

  • Valid driver’s license

The salary range for this position is $78,500 to $115,000. The final salary offer will vary based on geographic location, individual education, skills, and experience.
