Dates of Need: 3/1/2025-12/1/2025. Applicants must have 3 months experience with general farm work and provide the contact information of at least one reference who can verify experience and performance. Applicants hired must be able to obtain a valid drivers license as driving on public roads may be required.
Worker will be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of onions, potatoes, corn, wheat, triticale, grass, and hay. The majority of the work activities during the overall contract period, however, will be related to irrigation; workers possessing the proper licensure may be asked to transport other farm workers.\ Duties related to general farm work may include the following responsibilities: carry out team Lead tasks as directed by employer/foreman/supervisor; regularly report to supervisor/manager with completed tasks/status; maintain, drive, attach and operate farm implements/tractors/equipment to till soil, plant, cultivate, fertilize, and harvest crops; make minor mechanical adjustments and repairs on farm machinery; operate vehicle, motor bike, or all-terrain vehicle in the course of performing duties; remove undesirable and excess growth from crops or farm grounds; perform general clean-up of farm areas and worksites; walk behind equipment to ensure plant placement (unclog planter if necessary); observe general condition and inspect crops for signs of disease/insect manifestations/worms/rot and apply appropriate care; use mechanized or hand tools such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, ladders, etc.; recognize crop nutrient/moisture requirements an apply the appropriate care; lift items such as rolls of plastic, bundles of wire, and rolls of drip tape overhead; read/interpret meters used to\ regulate/control environmental conditions; identify, trap, poison pests; mow/tend farm areas; paint/repair/maintain farm structures/grounds; maintain/repair fencing; clean fields after harvest; dig with a shovel or machine; drive, load/unload Ag exempt, non CDL semi/10-wheel trucks; transport crops from field to storage and/or to market; back trucks up in tight maneuvering conditions; climb in and out of tall trucks and various truck beds and/or trailers; operate tractor/truck/forklift to load/unload products; work with augers, gas motors, generators and electrical cords; watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to ensure proper machine operation; adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions; report mechanical problems to farm mechanic and/or supervisor; perform any other labor considered necessary for the efficient structure of properties and growth of crops; workers possessing the proper licensure may be asked to transport other farm workers.\ Duties related to irrigation may include the following:\ Handlines: connect pipes; check alignment of pipe and adjust for proper water distribution; attach lines to water supply; turn on pump; turn valves to start flow of water; disassemble lines and carry pipes across fields at specified intervals; move pipes through freshly irrigated crops and/or plowed fields where mud may be deep at times; lift and carry pipe sections weighing approximately 40 pounds on a sustained basis. Wheel lines: start gasoline engines and operate controls to move lines across fields at specified intervals. Pivots: operate, maintain and repair system.
Instruction, training, and general supervision will be provided by the farm operator or a designated employee. However, the worker must perform required duties without close supervision and listen to, understand, and follow simple instructions of the employer or supervisor. The worker will be required to return worn out tools, supplies, and equipment before new ones will be provided. Most duties are performed out of doors and entail expo ure to heat, cold, dust, rain, and other environmental conditions common in fields, including mosquitoes during certain seasons. The worker must crouch, bend, and lift and carry items weighing up to 60 pounds in the course of performing required activities. The worker may be offered work seven days a week, as farm work must be performed seven days a week. The workers will be required, however, to work the minimum number of hours indicated in the job description. The worker may be offered more than the specified hours per day, but is only required to work the hours specified. The worker may be requested, but will not be required, to work on his/her Sabbath and/or on Federal holidays. Job Duties may require a split shift when irrigating. Work hours may vary and there may be periods when little or no work will be available due to weather, time of year, and the requirements of the cropping program.
