Job Overview

Overview: TE Connectivity’s Energy Division is seeking an Engineering Technician to join our Fuquay Varina team. This person will participate on new product development teams from initial concept/design through new product release and will be responsible for ANSI, UL, IEEE, and IEC qualification test programs. The Solar Engineering Technician will perform electrical, environmental, and mechanical testing to establish performance characteristics of connectors in a laboratory environment along with designing fixtures, creating drawings and 3D printing to support Engineering, R&D, Quality, Sales, and Product management. Individual works within an assigned area in a team environment. Work assignment will be on-site in a laboratory environment.

As a TE R&D Engineering Technician – Solar, a typical day may include:

• Plan and prepare test loops consisting of overhead conductors & connectors to conduct testing per industry standards utilizing test equipment for measurement and confirmation of performance characteristics to industry standards

• Document test and measurement data and may assist in preparation of test reports

• Assembly of prototypes/samples

• Assisting in experiments to verify products' integrity

• Design of tests and test fixtures

• Design of pre-production manufacturing and test equipment

• Preparation of CAD drawings

• Create/modify 3D models

• Purchasing parts and tools for use in building prototypes

• Locating and contacting potential suppliers of components

• Adhere to all applicable safety rules and practices and utilize appropriate personal protective gear during course of work. Maintaining and meeting safter standards is a critical work requirement

What your background should look like:

• Associate degree in a mechanical, electrical, or related technical field or equivalent/related work experience. Must be familiar with basics of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and materials science.

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience working as engineering technician in product testing environment

• Must be mechanically and electrically inclined and understand fundamental concepts and systems with hands-on skills (Assembly/disassembly, prototype fabrication, use of electronic equipment, simple soldering, etc.)

• Willingness to work overtime and flex working hours as needed to accommodate business needs. Travel possible less than 10%.

• Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 lbs. comfortably

• Must be able to take task instructions verbally, by sketch or from specification documents, and to read assembly instructions and drawings. Must be able to keep organized notebook, plan and manage multiple test programs, collect, and manage test data, write test reports.

• Working knowledge of MS Office and LabView or ability to learn quickly required

• Must be able to drive multiple projects to completion in a timely manner with high realization of objectives, and to function independently and be initiative-taking.

• Excellent oral, written and presentation communication skills required to work well with all levels/departments of the organization

• Prefer candidates with knowledge of testing power connectors for power systems and strong knowledge and understanding of ANSI, UL, IEEE, IEC testing specifications

• Prefer candidates with experience operating and troubleshooting electrical test equipment, experience with ohm meter, voltmeter, amp meter

• Prefer candidate with experience dealing with insulated power cables

• Prefer 3D modeling and 2D drawing experience

COMPENSATION

• Competitive base salary commensurate with experience: $65680-98520 (subject to change dependent on physical location)

• Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. TE Connectivity reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the experience/qualification of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.

• Total Compensation = Base Salary + Incentive(s) + Benefits
