Job Description:

The Department of Medicine, Division of Nephrology is seeking a full time Data Scientist III. An Artificial Intelligence and Data Scientist 3 will assist in multiple ongoing and future biomedical microcopy artificial intelligence research projects by (1) performing data analyses, processing, and feature extraction, and developing data tools for accelerating research; (2) developing and validating a variety of machine learning/deep learning models with heterogenous cell and tissue imaging data. They will ensure data and model quality, integrity, and robustness, and will contribute to scientific publications related to healthcare/ imaging AI research.

Essential Functions;

• Maintaining a large cell and tissue microscopy image database (murine and human) as well as corresponding clinical biometrics data and healthcare outcome

• Actively collaborate and coordinate with many national and international collaborators to ingest data, and maintain the database using careful metadata standards, including sample preparation, imaging, as well digital parameters

• Maintain the derived data, such as annotations, as well as other results obtained from the raw data

• Work with collaborators, students, partners on demand and share the data as needed

• Maintain a description of data in hand as part of a database

• Maintain the data via a cloud server using Digital Slide Achieve tool

• Develop and maintain end-user plugins for conducting detection, segmentation, and quantification of micro and macro anatomical structures in tissues, predictive modeling of diseases, as well as image and molecular omics data fusion

• Actively work with UF IT to ensure that the end-user customers are able to use these plugins without any service interruption. Provide needed support to end-users.

• Maintain a federated model to allow end-users to conduct computational analysis without data leaving their host servers

• Maintain a slack channel on the system, documentation, and version control for guiding end-users

• Develop and maintain tools for visualizing multi-omics data

• Actively work with UF IT to ensure that the end-user customers are able to use the visualization tool. Provide needed support to end-users.

• Summarizing and visualizing results for inclusion in scientific publication

• Maintaining appropriate records of research methods and results and assisting in preparation of presentations and/or writing manuscripts

Expected Salary:

$69,600 - $90,372 Annually

Minimum Requirements:

A Bachelor’s Degree in data science, statistics, bioinformatics, analytics, or similar field and five years of experience; Master’s Degree in data science, statistics, bioinformatics, analytics, or similar field and three years of experience; Doctoral Degree in data science, statistics, bioinformatics, analytics, or similar field and one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Clean, well-documented coding style

• Experience with data integration and processing, analysis, and reporting

• Experience in digital pathology, computational pathology, imaging, and image analysis

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to work independently and in a team

• Demonstrated ability to achieve high-performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

• Willingness to learn new skills

• Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of customer/client service and response

• Forward-thinking mentality, actively seeking opportunities and proposing creative solutions with strong decision-making capability

• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders and critical staff, both internally and externally, through a variety of communication mediums and venues

• Excellent ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders across functions to optimize performance and drive projects to completion, including working directly with university and senior leadership to achieve project goals

• expertise in Python, at least medium level of understanding in ML pipeline development with open-sourced Python packages and libraries

• A Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, statistics, biomedical engineering, or related field and two years of experience; A Master's Degree in computer science, statistics, biomedical engineering, or related field

• Proficient in Digital & Computational Pathology, AI, Machine Learning, Data Science, Image Processing and Analysis

• Strong experience with computer vision (CV) or natural language processing (NLP) using deep learning

• Experience with patient health data

• Experience managing large-scale databases and data repositories

• Track record of academic research and/or scientific publications
