Job Description:

Specimen Accessioning/Triage

Prepare Clinical Pathology laboratory specimens for designated departments/locations prior to laboratory

analysis and testing. Unpacks specimens from branches or ports and routes specimens by type to various

staging areas. Receive and record all specimens into daily receipt log, this includes checking courier bins

and other specimen drop locations throughout the day for additional samples. Pre-accession specimens,

print out labels and attach to paperwork and specimen container, print Test Order form, track and deliver to the appropriate designated location(s).

Specimen Preparation and Processing

Under guidance of the pathologists and medical technologists, prepare materials and assist with tasks

within the laboratory. This includes but is not limited to specimen and tube labeling, reagent handling and/or preparation, and handling and processing of potentially infectious specimens with adherence to safety

protocols (organizing, aliquoting, tracking, storage and disposal).

Lab Maintenance

Including but not limited to: Hazardous and biohazardous waste packaging and other tasks requiring heavy

item lifting and reaching; Appropriately sanitize and disinfect lab surfaces, accessories and equipment;

Daily, weekly and monthly equipment maintenance and safety checks; Perform inventory management, put

away supplies as needed, pull supplies and prepare items for transportation via courier/ distribution to

clients; Temperature monitoring; Updating logs and filing paperwork.

Expected Salary:

Starting salary is between $16.00 - $16.50 per hour

Minimum Requirements:

Associate's degree in an appropriate area; or a high school diploma or equivalent and two years of related experience. Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with good laboratory practices and safe handling of infectious materials or hazardous

reagents or waste. Knowledge of medical terminology. Minimum one year of relevant experience in lab or

clinical setting.

Experience with the following instrumentations or systems is preferred: EPIC/BEAKER or LIMs equivalent,

Hamilton Microlab Star Automated Pipettor, Hologic Panther, Microsoft Applications including Word and

Excel.
