Job Description:

Organization, maintenance, and breeding of mice (husbandry, setting up mating cages, weaning pups, tail snips and monitoring health concerns). Coordination with Animal Care Services staff to facilitate the efficient and timely maintenance of laboratory mouse colony and to troubleshoot issues with mice on a day-to-day-basis. Assist in the training of laboratory personnel on proper animal techniques and colony maintenance.

Perform well established experimental protocols to genotype mouse lines and enter resulting data into a lab database. Arrange for the ordering of mice, shipment of mice to collaborators at other institutions, and oversight/maintenance of meticulous records of the mouse colony.

Assist other lab members with the application and assessment of various molecular therapeutic approaches in mouse models, including weighing, injection, and behavioral analysis. Assist in the effective planning and implementation of project timelines and assisting in ensure project milestones are met.

Other duties as assigned by PI.

These duties will be performed with little supervision from the laboratory PI.

Expected Salary:

Annual salary range is $37,700 - $43,000 and is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Associate’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of related experience or a high school diploma and four years of related experience. Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

More than 3 years of experience in management of large mouse colonies.

Experience with genotyping and dissection of mice.

Extensive experience in handling, assessment and treatment of mice.
