Overview

The Respiratory Therapist provides respiratory therapy services to promote cardiopulmonary wellness for clients in their home or place of residence, as prescribed by the physician. This position works at or above the level determined by the standard that will ensure quality care and safe practices and works assigned on-call shifts.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care in accordance with the AARC's "Statement of Ethics and Professional Conduct" and "Respiratory Care Scope of Practice" and applicable municipal, state and federal laws.

• Provides direct patient care in coordination with the client's physician and other care providers.

• Patient visits are made in a timely manner and within the agency’s timeframe from date of referral acceptance.

• Provides respiratory services, prescribed by the physician, which can be safely provided in the home setting and to assist the physician in evaluating clients using diagnostic testing related to the cardiopulmonary system.

• Instructs the client and family in the disease process, care and use of respiratory services and the client’s total respiratory therapy program. Provides verbal and written instruction.

• Instructs other health team personnel including, when appropriate, home health aides and family members in certain phases of respiratory therapy in which they may assist the client.

• Observes and records activities and findings in the clinical record and reports to the physician and agency the client’s reaction to treatment and any changes in the client’s condition. Documents include progress and outcomes.

• Reviews the written plan of care with the client and caregiver, agency and physician and updates the plan as required.

• Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment for the patient.

• Establishes and maintains collaborative relationship with client's physician and other personnel as appropriate including regular verbal and written communication reports regarding changes in the client's needs, condition, and outcome of intervention.

• Documentation is submitted timely and accurately and according to agency guidelines.

• Information regarding malfunctioning equipment, defective or inadequate supplies is reported to the appropriate individuals per agency policy.

• Ensures Infection Control and Safety measures, including Universal Precautions, are met and followed.

Qualifications

• Current state license in Respiratory Therapy with 1-year experience in Respiratory Therapy.

• Hospice or Home Care experience preferred.

• Experience working with interdisciplinary team preferred.

• Position requires expertise in various technologies such as Microsoft Office, electronic medical records, etc.

• Current state license in Respiratory Therapy.

• Current state Driver's License and insurance.

• Exhibits critical thinking abilities and applies them for continuous improvement of services, Haven Medical Equipment and HH.

• Demonstrates ability to think creatively, identify and make recommendations to the Director, Clinical Ops.

• Consistently demonstrates initiative and skills in planning and organizing work.

• Demonstrates ability to prioritize workload and ensures that all projects are completed by deadlines.

• Uses own knowledge and experience base and other resources as necessary to make logical decisions and solve problems.

• Demonstrated ability to work non-judgmentally with persons of varied cultural, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds and lifestyles.

• Travel 25-75%
