Job Description:

The Diagnostic Imaging Technician at the University of Florida Veterinary Hospital provides support for the hospital by producing quality imaging while maintaining exemplary patient care in an efficient manner. These images with the interpretation from our radiologists will provide information to the referring veterinarian or specialist that will help determine a diagnosis for their patient. Our technicians work with all type of animals in both the large and small animal hospital and work on a variety of modalities including but not limited to digital radiography, Fluoroscopy, CT, MRI, Nuclear medicine, portable radiography, interventional radiology, and ultrasound. Individuals should genuinely care about people and animals, possess excellent communication skills, outgoing, full of enthusiasm and a team player

An individual in this position must possess excellent communication skills and be proactive in determining the needs of the hospital. A successful applicant should enjoy learning new things and can quickly adapt to a changing environment. They need to possess a good base knowledge of veterinary medicine and express a positive attitude in their daily work. The individual must be able to communicate effectively, demonstrate critical thinking and professionalism.

This is a full-time, benefited position and is considered essential personnel. A post-offer education verification, background check, and health assessment are required.

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE

• Typical schedule will be Monday through Friday with varying shifts between 7:00am -7:00pm Schedule may change due to covering other shifts and it may be required to assist in other areas of the hospital depending on patient care needs.

• This individual is considered essential personnel which may include reporting to work during Main Campus closures

• Individual required to participate in on-call for the service

• Some weekend hours may be required.

Nursing Care

The primary role of the technician is to support the hospital by producing quality imaging while maintaining exemplary patient care in an efficient manner. The technician will work under the direction of the Radiologists, Residents, and Veterinary Diagnostic Manager and follow all policies and procedures as directed. The expectation is that the individual will communicate effectively with services to determine needs and priorities for the day, display a positive and proactive attitude while also knowing when to ask for help or guidance when needed. Patients should be handled compassionately with the goal to prevent and alleviate fear, anxiety, and stress during their visit.

Documentation and Scheduling

Proper documentation is important for patient care. We expect our employees to be proactive when it comes to communication and scheduling to help facilitate the best needs of the patients and schedule. Our technicians need to be proficient in our hospital information systems, especially the Radiology Information System. Patient records should be complete and proper information provided to all parties. Individuals must foster positivity, respect, and trust throughout their interactions, demonstrating proactivity in communication and scheduling to help facilitate the needs of the patients and schedule. Clients include owners, referring veterinarians, other department/service team members, and veterinary students. Delivery methods include orally, written, and in digital platforms.

Teaching and Mentoring

The focus of teaching and mentoring is to provide an opportunity for others to learn by creating a safe and welcoming environment and building cohesive relationships amongst all individuals. Promoting further education and development is achieved by fostering teamwork, positivity, respect, and trust along with creating a culture of constructive dialogue by inviting thoughts and new ideas for discussion. Veterinary students, technician interns, shadowing technician students, assistants, and volunteers are all examples of individuals that can benefit from teaching and mentoring efforts. Delivery methods include orally, written, and in digital platforms.

Expected Salary:

non credentialed: $18-$23; Credentialed: $20-$28, pay is dependent on experience in imaging

Minimum Requirements:

Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging Technician l:

High school diploma or equivalent and one year of relevant experience

Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging Technician II:

Credentialed veterinary technician or credentialed in a diagnostic imaging field

Preferred Qualifications:

• Graduate from an accredited American Veterinary Medical Association program for veterinary technology OR American Registered Radiologic Technologist.

• Credentialed veterinary Technician OR

• Registered Radiological Technologist

When appropriate certifications are achieved, promotional opportunities to a level II title may be available. This position will also become eligible for transition into a TEAMS (staff) salary plan. This is a full time position and will require some on call shifts.
