Responsibilities The position is located at the National Institute of Standards and Technologies, Chief Office of Facilities and Property Management, Safety Group supporting the Facilities Services Division. The primary purpose will be to provide support to the Facilities Services Division as the FSD Program Technical Safety Specialist, whose duties will include but not limited to; Designs safety and occupational health plans and systems to support safety plans and systems at multiple sites. Develops and implements FSD safety strategies and mechanisms to improve/update workplace safety practices in compliance with NIST EH&S regulations. Provides expert advice to managers on safety/occupational health practices, processes, and regulations. Develop, coordinate, and present safety training to the division or appropriate contract personnel; serve as an in-division safety coach Make decisions on safety code application and practices required to reduce or eliminate injury and gain code compliance. Perform the Contracting Officer's Representative duties and project management on safety-related contracts. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to qualify, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-10 (ZT-III at NIST) level. Specialized experience is defined as: Performing technical assistance, consultation, and guidance on the implementation of mechanical systems safety, safety equipment inspections, and safety workplace inspections during testing, renovation, maintenance, and construction operations. In addition to the required specialized experience; all applicants must have a valid U.S. drivers license (uploaded with their application). Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
