JOB SUMMARY:

The Gordon F. Derner School of Psychology seeks to enhance its roster of faculty through the addition of an Assistant Teaching Professor. The position is a non-tenure-track, three-year renewable appointment with opportunities for advancement to the ranks of Associate and Full Teaching Professor. Specialty is open, but applicants will be expected to teach sections of Psychological Statistics and Research Methods at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as other foundational courses in line with the applicant’s expertise. Applicants must have a PhD in psychology or a related field and will begin teaching in Fall 2025. We are seeking candidates who have a strong commitment to teaching students from diverse cultural backgrounds.

SALARY INFORMATION:

In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $80,000 - $82,000. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. An annual base salary higher than the range may be warranted in circumstances where a candidate has demonstrable equivalent prior higher education experience at another University.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Candidates will be expected to teach 24 credits (approximately 6-8 courses) a year across the undergraduate and graduate programs including but not limited to psychological statistics, research methods, and other foundational courses in line with his/her area of expertise and department needs. Advising and mentoring of students may be required, in addition to service to the Derner School of Psychology and Adelphi University, more broadly, as determined by the Dean.

  2. This position will contribute primarily to our undergraduate and MA programs, but there may also be opportunities to teach in the doctoral program.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  3. Candidates with a strong background in psychology, statistics, and research methods will be considered.

  4. Priority will be given to candidates with teaching experience in the following areas: statistics, researc h methods. However, candidates with expertise in other areas are also encouraged to apply.

  5. Priority will be given to candidates with experience teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
