Town of Garner Building Codes Inspector III (Commercial Plan Review) - Supplemental in Garner, North Carolina

+-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | The Town of Garner Inspections Department is seeking a Building Codes | | Inspector III to primarily assist with commercial plan review. This | | position performs difficult technical work in the inspection of | | building plans and construction for compliance with assigned building | | codes; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular | | supervision. | | | | This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force | | occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible | | amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, | | balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, fingering, grasping, and | | repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or | | exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to | | perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is | | required for depth perception, color perception, preparing and | | analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small | | defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, operation of | | motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and | | thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and | | activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental | | conditions, hazards, and atmospheric conditions. | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Examples of Duties: | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | - Performs plan review of, commercial, industrial, and public | | facilities for compliance with building, plumbing, electrical, | | and/or mechanical codes; | | - Compiles lists of violations; prepares notices of violations; | | - Advises contractor in interpreting and applying code provisions; | | - Receives complaints in regard to defective construction and | | handles enforcement problems; | | - Where construction is not being made in compliance with | | regulations as to methods and/or materials, issues warnings and | | stop-work orders if necessary; | | - Issues violation notices as required; | | - Answers questions from private citizens, contractors, and | | builders, does plan checking to determine compliance with codes; | | testifies in court on code violation cases; makes reports and | | keeps records regarding inspections; | | - Assists with minimum housing inspections. | | - Attends training to increase skills and maintain certifications; | | - Performs related tasks as required. | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Minimum Qualifications: | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Applicants must have at least 5 years of building codes inspection | | experience and prior plan review experience in North Carolina. | | | | Applicant must have a Level 3 Standard Building Certificate and at | | least Level 2 Probationary Certificates in Electrical, Mechanical, | | and Plumbing. | | | | A high school diploma or equivalent and additional studies in | | construction or construction work experience are required. | | | | A valid North Carolina driver's license and good driving record are | | also required. | | Preference will be given to applicants with prior commercial plan | | review experience. | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Additional Information: | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | This position is classified as a supplemental position (less than 20 | | hours per week). | | | | This position will primarily work remotely. | | | | This position is open until filled and may close at any time. | | | | Equal Opportunity Employer | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+
