Town of Garner Building Codes Inspector in Garner, North Carolina

There are three levels of Building Codes Inspector (I, II, | | and III). The salary range represents the minimum salary for the | | Level I position through the midpoint for the Level II position. The Town was named anAll-America Cityin 2013 because of | | innovative, citizen-led projects that improve the quality of life and | | expand educational and cultural opportunities for citizens of all | | ages. | | | | The Building Codes Inspector performs difficult technical work in the | | inspection of building plans and construction for compliance with | | building codes, inspecting in all 4 building codes.Work is performed | | under regular supervision. | | | | This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force | | occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible | | amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, | | balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, fingering, grasping, and | | repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or | | exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to | | perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is | | required for depth perception, color perception, preparing and | | analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small | | defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, operation of | | motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and | | thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and | | activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental | | conditions, hazards, and atmospheric conditions. | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Examples of Duties: | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | - Performs field inspections and re-inspections of residential and | | commercial structures for compliance with the NC Building, | | Electrical, Mechanical, and Plumbing codes and referenced | | materials. Prepare reports of all violations noted during | | inspections | | - Advises contractorsin interpreting and applying code provisions. | | - Receives complaints regarding defective construction and handles | | enforcement problems. | | - Issues warnings and stop-work orders, if necessary, where | | construction is not being mad in compliance with regulations as | | to methods and/or materials. | | - Reviews building plans for compliance with building codes; issues | | permits. | | - Assists with minimum housing inspections | | - Answers questions from private citizens, contractors, and | | builders. | | - Reviews plans to determine compliance with codes. | | - Testifies in court on code violation cases. | | - Prepares and submits reports and keeps records regarding | | inspections. | | - Conducts commercial plan reviews. | | - Attends training to increase skills and maintain certifications. | | - Performs related duties as required. | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Minimum Qualifications: | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Applicants must have earned a high school diploma (or equivalent). | | | | Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and have a good | | driving history. | | | | All applicants must at least be pre-qualified for level 1 | | certificates in all trades from the NC Code Officials Qualification | | Board.
