Aerotek Mig Finish Welder in Georgetown, Texas

Job Title: Welder

Job Description

Join our team to manufacture and assemble cranes designed to be mounted on semi-trucks. Our customers range from construction and engineering companies to the military and armed forces. As a welder, you will be responsible for creating complete boom crane units or sub-units by positioning, aligning, fitting, and welding parts according to blueprints and layout specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret specifications and documents to define the scope of work on work orders.

  • Read and interpret instructions from OEM drawings and schematics.

  • Inspect surfaces of cranes and crane parts; determine the best method of preparation and prepare the surfaces for welding.

  • Perform minor assembly as necessary.

  • Move parts to be welded in and out of the weld-line.

  • Ensure technical specifications and quality standards are met at all levels.

  • Complete all required paperwork.

  • Operate Class B forklifts.

  • Follow and comply with all safety regulations and practices.

  • Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.

  • Work without direct supervision and in a team setting.

  • Be a lean culture advocate through waste elimination, continuous improvement, and customer-focused quality.

  • Demonstrate welding proficiency by passing independent laboratory testing of weld quality and be subject to periodic testing of weld quality.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Welding certification required.

  • 2+ years of MIG welding experience.

  • Familiarity with the welding process and the ability to follow all welding procedures.

  • Ability to read and interpret drawings using conventional and geometric tolerances.

  • Knowledge of welding symbols.

  • Ability to use metrics as well as standard measurements.

  • Ability to complete own set-ups including material and machine prep.

  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for welding processes and results.

  • Experience in metal preparation including cleaning, sanding, and bead blasting.

Work Environment

Work in a non-climate controlled manufacturing facility with a large warehouse-type space featuring several pods or work stations. Welding bays are spread out, providing individual workspaces. The job involves building custom-designed cranes for semi-trucks. The plant has a smaller company feel and is connected to the office building. The first shift runs Monday to Friday from 6am-4:45pm with two 15-minute breaks and a 45-minute unpaid lunch. Be prepared to work weekends, especially in the initial phase, as the team ramps up and catches up on work.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Georgetown, Texas.
