The Coordinator will oversee the implementation of evidence-based curricula and interventions by assigned teachers across Summit Academy.

The Coordinator will oversee curriculum and educational activities for all students and classrooms and collaborate with other Educational Coordinators and Clinical Coordinators to ensure consistency of clinical services across Summit Academy. In collaboration with the Principal, the Coordinator will ensure established classroom standards and behavior standards are implemented with fidelity in all classrooms. Work with the head of the curriculum and behavior support departments to implement initiatives.

Staff Support:

  • Provide training, coaching and mentoring to teachers, behavior support staff and classroom staff in the area of classroom and behavioral standards.

  • Conduct fidelities, visits, and informal observations.

  • Model/coach group instruction and activities.

  • Teach pull out instructional groups as needed and appropriate.

  • Guide behavior support staff in completing FBA referrals, FBAs, IBPs, BIPs, Transportation Protocols, progress reports, PIT forms, and PIT Quarterly Reports.

  • Provide coaching and support for teachers to accurately complete lesson plans, student information sheets, cheat sheets, schedules, CMPs, etc.

  • Proactively communicate with the principal about staff performance and observations, including staff progress and performance concerns.

Family and Caregiver Support:

  • Attend parent meetings and home visits with the classroom teacher or behavior consultant as needed/requested by principal.

  • Support phone calls for challenging behavioral or curriculum situations.

Safety, Crisis and Building Support:

  • Monitor availability of crisis gear, communication systems (i.e. walkie talkies) and mats/Ukeru pads; request/order, distribute and redistribute as necessary

  • Participate in the on-going training and monitoring of all staff with regard to applicable crisis intervention curricula or specific techniques relevant to assigned programs and individual intervention plans, providing coaching and feedback as necessary.

  • Regularly review the use of restrictive procedures to ensure that staff are positive and proactive in their efforts to manage severe problem behavior.

  • Ensure that data are obtained regularly to support the use of restrictive interventions and that students are making progress.

  • In the absence of the principal, act as lead building administrator; communicate with superintendent as needed.

Support Overall Student Programming

  • Attend team and programming meetings

  • Participate in Student SPM and Amendment Meetings; ensure that all meeting guidelines and processes are followed in conjunction with the principal

  • Engage in curriculum problem-solving to ensure relevant and appropriate instructional plans.

  • Ensure educational materials are suitable.

  • Support the implementation of classroom and behavior support standards.

  • Ensure best practices in the behavioral assessment process.

  • Ensure AR/Amendment goals are appropriate based on individual students' barriers.

  • Support and complete scheduled SummitUp (and other, e.g., Edmark) assessments.

  • Review FBAs, BIPs, and IBPs for quality and adherence to timelines.

  • Sign off on FBA referrals.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:Master's degree or Ph.D. in Special Education or related field; minimum of two years experience in a direct clinical or educational setting with children or adults with developmental disabilities; training and experience in the use of evidence-based practice with particular emphasis on methods of applied behavior analysis. Three years' experience as a classroom teacher and/or behavior consultant preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, etc: Maintains Professional or Permanent Certification as a Teacher, School Psychologist; or other related professional. NYS certification in School Building Leader (SBL), School District Leader (SDL) or certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst required within 3 years of accepting position. Preferred Board Certified Behavior Analyst. First Aid and SCIP-R certification. Recommended to become SCIP-R and/or Ukeru Instructor.
