Citigroup VP, Operational Risk (Hybrid) in Getzville, New York
The Operational Risk Officer is a strategic professional who stays abreast of developments within own field and contributes to directional strategy by considering their application in own job and the business. There are typically multiple people within the business that provide the same level of subject matter expertise. Developed communication and diplomacy skills are required in order to guide, influence and convince others, in particular colleagues in other areas and occasional external customers. Significant impact on the area through complex deliverables. Provides advice and counsel related to the technology or operations of the business. Work impacts an entire area, which eventually affects the overall performance and effectiveness of the sub-function/job family. Has responsibility for volume, quality, timeliness and delivery of end results of an area. May have responsibility for planning, budgeting and policy formulation within area of expertise. Involved in short-term planning resource planning.
Responsibilities:
Establishes and oversees the application of operational risk policies, technology and tools, and governance processes to create lasting solutions for minimizing losses from failed internal processes, inadequate controls, and emerging risks.
Independently assess’ risks and drive actions to address the root causes that persistently lead to operational risk losses by challenging both historical and proposed practices.
Establishes and maintains a robust control environment and culture within the Citi businesses worldwide.
Assists management in achieving and maintaining strategic objectives, promotes efficiency, reduces the risk of loss and helps ensure compliance with corporate polices, procedures, laws and regulatory requirements
Establishes a rapport with Business Managers, Compliance, Internal Audit and Legal.
Develops a broad and detailed understanding of the organization’s landscape, culture and technology.
Understands the various businesses and the applicable regulations which govern
Monitors goals are met through performance, risk and relationship oversight of our extended supply chain
Collaborates to resolve any issues which fall within the terms of the contract.
Develops and maintains relationships across the business users and Lines of Defense to better understand and deliver customer requirements by responding to changes in the internal and external business environment
Has the ability to operate with a limited level of direct supervision.
Can exercise independence of judgement and autonomy.
Acts as SME to senior stakeholders and /or other team members.
Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
Supports and ensures remediation of regulatory commitments (Consent Order) and Issue closures including QA, BFQC and IA validation
Governance and oversight may include (not limited to) technology operational risk, cyber risk for example.
Serves as a subject matter expert for all performance issues that surface.
Qualifications:
6-10 years experience in Operational Risk is a must. Other risk and control disciplines would be a plus – credit, and market.
Outstanding communication and influencing skills through all levels of the organization and with external partners and vendors.
Exceptional relationship management skills; must be able to address and resolve conflict while maintaining relationships.
Knowledge of Operational Risk processes like Loss Capture, CCAR and Risk Capital and technology platforms supporting the Operations.
Experience in Internal Audit or Financial Control would be desirable.
Expertise in the following is beneficial: Risk Management, Regulatory Compliance and Data Management specifically
Ability to problem solve, be agile and work with ambiguity, changing priorities and guidance
Customer focused with excellent Interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team environment collaborating across diverse groups
Demonstrated understanding of operational risk and gap identification
Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to present a compelling case to influence others where appropriate
Expert in Microsoft Office Tools.
Experience with Regulatory and/or IA interaction and remediation of raised concern
Education:
