North American Stainless Long Products Operations Engineer in GHENT, Kentucky

Provides mechanical engineering services and technical support to the Hot Mill stainless steel operations to enhance productivity, improve yield, and reduce cost. Supports the stainless steel operations team by recommending areas of improvement, supporting floor operations, and solving day-to-day mechanical issues related to yield and productivity. Review all Hot Mill stainless steel production processes and material flow throughout the Hot Mill. Reviews stainless steel production lines in Long Products using lean manufacturing principles and problem solving techniques to identify projects capable of providing solutions to improve productivity levels and quality. Investigate equipment failures and recommend corrective actions. Assists in designing mechanical systems for the production of stainless steel. Track and analyze data for various process parameters on the finishing product quality and suggest changes to improve quality based on metallurgical insight. Review the inspection practice and work instructions of the hot mill inspectors to ensure that these practices are in conjunction with testing standards for the stainless steel industry. Track and analyze yield loss by product type, production line, and crew. Create mechanical testing procedures to ensure better reliability of assessment of stainless steel products. Make recommendations to increase yield based on trend analysis and materials knowledge. Monitor safety standards in all operation areas of the Hot Mill. Investigate ways to improve safety in regard to operation procedures, equipment functionality, automation controls, and proper training and awareness. Create designs using AutoCAD and SolidWorks. Monitor ACIS system for Hot Mill operations. A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is required. Proficiency in using lean manufacturing principles as shown by at least a Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification, proficiency in creating mechanical testing procedures to ensure better reliability of assessment of products as shown by three months of work experience in this area, proficiency in using SolidWorks and AutoCAD as shown by 6 months of work experience in these areas are required.
