Mitsubishi Chemical Gelest Division is seeking a, is seeking a Chemical Engineer to join a team committed to excellence, continuous improvement and driving sustainable business results. This position will have responsibility for supporting the company financial reporting process. The Chemical Engineer will be responsible for supporting operations and executing engineering projects throughout the plant. This role involves production troubleshooting, procuring new equipment, development of new processes, and optimizing current equipment/systems for improved efficiency. The Chemical Engineer will also handle modifications, expansions of existing facilities, and supervise internal and external resources as needed to ensure successful project completion. What You Will Do...

  • Work safely with pilot and production scale equipment, hazardous materials, including, but not limited to, reactive, flammable, toxic, and pyrophoric materials.

  • Work with staff to screen processes and effectively transfer technology.

  • Work with and coordinate activities from vendors and contractors on design and fabrication during project execution.

  • Develop processes, methods, and technologies to meet plant or project objectives.

  • Design, provide construction guidance, commission, start-up, and troubleshoot production processes.

  • Promote safety initiatives and provide input during Haz-Op reviews

  • Design and execute manufacturing protocols to optimize process performance

  • Coordinate trial batches in a production environment, including specification of raw materials, drafting procedures, monitoring the batches, and reporting the results while assisting in assessing and specifying equipment to meet process objectives.

  • Lead or assist troubleshooting activities for existing manufacturing processes and perform root cause analysis.

  • Evaluate equipment and processes to identify opportunities to optimize performance or to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

  • Write procedures, Safe Work Practices, Design Hazard Reviews and Management of Change as needed.

  • Engage in continuous improvement activities within the manufacturing area.

  • Other duties as assigned.

What You Will Have...

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related field required.

  • 2+ years of experience with a heavy emphasis on process development and project management preferred.

  • Familiar with the basic chemical process unit operations. Example: batch reactors, heat exchangers, pumps, industrial instrumentation, heating/cooling equipment, and distillation columns.

  • Experience with polymers and/or acrylate chemistry is a plus.

  • Process Safety Management (PSM) experience is a plus.

  • Validation/qualification process knowledge preferred.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Must be able to work in a production chemical processing environment, including wearing appropriate PPE (at minimum safety shoes, glasses, gloves, and a hard hat. Respirators or other PPE as needed).

  • Must be able to perform hands-on processing duties, including sampling of chemicals and limited lifting requirements (up to 30 pounds).

  • Must be able to climb ladders and stairs as needed to obtain samples, observe processes, or perform similar tasks.

  • Must be capable of working in a non-climate-controlled environment.

  • This position is on-site and cannot be performed remotely.

  • Travel is generally not necessary but may be offered for training or other educational purposes.

Pay Transparency (complete highlighted sections)

  • The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $140,000. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary will be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
