Midwestern University College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Exotic Animal Medicine. This appointment can be tenure-track or non-tenure-track, depending on the goals of the applicant. We are building our team of clinicians who will provide clinical services for exotic animal patients in the Companion Animal Clinic and local external partners working with wildlife, aquatic, and zoo species. Faculty will participate in mentoring a specialty intern, in addition to teaching in the exotic animal medicine course and clinical skills labs within the DVM curriculum. All faculty members are expected to serve as clinical mentors for house officers and students.
The following qualifications are required:
DVM or equivalent degree
Board certification (or eligibility) by ACZM, ECZM, or ABVP
Evidence of excellent clinical and communication skills
Understanding of patient-centered care
Willingness to engage in collaborative clinical research
Strong commitment to meeting the needs of students and house officers
Collaborative mindset to foster a team-approach to teaching and service

The College of Veterinary Medicine is housed in Cactus Wren Hall and in the Animal Health Institute. Cactus Wren Hall is a new facility with ample classrooms, teaching laboratories, research laboratories, conference rooms, and offices. The Animal Health Institute is comprised of The Companion Animal Clinic, The Large Animal Clinic, and The Diagnostic Pathology Center. The Companion Animal Clinic is a modern and innovative veterinary hospital for small animals. The 110,000 sq. ft. building contains state-of-the-art medical, surgical, internal medicine, dental, and urgent care facilities. Additional patient services include anesthesiology neurology, physical therapy, cardiology, therapeutic plasma exchange, shelter medicine, clinical pathology, and microbiology. In addition to outstanding clinical facilities and equipment, the Companion Animal Clinic houses a pharmacy, a large and well-equipped surgery teaching laboratory, simulated examination rooms for clinical communications training using standardized clients/patients, and ample conference and small-group meeting rooms. Adjacent to the Companion Animal Clinic is the Large Animal Clinic, which houses large animal teaching and treatment facilities, and small herds of cattle and horses. The Diagnostic Pathology Center offers a full range of anatomical pathology and forensic pathology services and contains ample teaching spaces.

Our mission is to improve animal and human life through innovative veterinary education and state of the art health care services. Therefore, we are seeking a faculty member with strong interests in teaching and who is excited about participating in the growth of our veterinary college and having a role in shaping its teaching and clinical programs. While independent research is not a requirement for this position, a certain degree of scholarly activity is expected of all faculty members. Evidence of interest and experience in research will be considered an asset.
