U-Haul Production Process Engineer in Glendale, Arizona

Production Process Engineer

In this position, you will work with the manufacturing plant’s production departments to ensure that goods are made with a high level of craftsmanship and in the most efficient process, maintaining U-Haul’s high standards of quality and on-time delivery. Primary Responsibilities (but not limited to):

· Act as liaison between Product Engineering and Manufacturing

· Use Engineering Change Notices to update production information

· Develop, maintain, and improve area processes, equipment, information, and workflow

· Determine and design work-holding and other fixtures/gages – manage thru implementation

· Provide information and processes that ensure maximum utilization of equipment and facilities

· Responsible for plant layout, including placement of the equipment, machinery, conveyor systems etc. to provide ability to maximize operating efficiency

· Perform time studies to improve ERP accuracy and/or for other area improvements

· Create and maintain area work instruction and procedures or other documentation

· Work as a team with all levels and functional areas of the organization

· Order specialty tools and gages as necessary

· Provide training and guidance to shop floor as necessary

· Follow, support, and enforce safety policies/procedures in compliance with applicable guidelines

· Review processes for efficiency and troubleshoot production issues as they arise

· Participate in improvement activities and generate new ideas for improvement

· Become a trusted professional for the shop floor

· Other duties as deemed appropriate by Management to support the business plan

Production Process Engineer Minimum Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or industrial engineering or equivalent experience

· 0 – 5 years of manufacturing experience

· Experience in 3D CAD modeling and drawing (Inventor/SolidWorks), AutoCAD is a plus

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

· Manufacturing experience/knowledge preferred but not required

· Lean manufacturing experience is a plus

· Must be able to demonstrate a high degree of mechanical aptitude

· Strong written and verbal communication skills

· Ability to stand for and spend 50% of each day on shop floor, minimally

Work Environment:

The work involves moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, machines, fumes, or irritating chemicals. May be required to use protective clothing, or gear such as masks, goggles, gloves, or shields.

Physical Demands:

The work requires physical exertion such as extended periods indoors and outdoors of remaining stationery, traversing spaces, repositioning to reach and use tools, and moving at least 50 lbs. assisted or unassisted.
