The Walt Disney Company Product Design Manager - Project Hire in Glendale, California

About the Role & Team

Responsible for the day-to-day execution of product design of licensed products for the Disney and Pixar trading card category from concept through production working with internal teams and licensees. Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure the highest quality, consumer focused, trend-right product lines across all channels of distribution that build brand equity and meet financial targets. Must be passionate about Disney and Pixar films, characters, stories and history!

The Product Design Manager will report to VP, Product Design.

This is a 12-Month Project Hire position without any guarantee of permanent placement.

What You Will Do

  • Through deep understanding of Disney/Pixar stories, collaborate with Licensees to build out product assortments targeted to collectible trading card fan base.

  • Partner with the licensee‘s product creative and design teams to drive overall creative direction, character selection and identify future areas of growth within each franchise across trading card segments.

  • Build relationships with key partners within The Walt Disney Company to secure inspiring assets to drive the uniqueness, collect-ability and commercial success of each product line.

  • Manage and complete product and packaging approvals through online systems and collaborative approval meetings, ensuring high quality standards in character execution, in-depth storytelling, color, material, form and function while improving profitability and meeting deadlines.

  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to elevate product offering and secure approvals.

  • Collaborate with Regional Product Design and Commercial teams to understand and track local trading card product lines and marketing programs.

  • Assist in onboarding new Licensees on process, assets and resources to build compelling and commercially viable products.

  • Monitor competitors, product innovation and market dynamics within collectible categories

  • Multi-task and prioritize multiple design projects, running simultaneously with varying levels of complexity and production schedules.

  • Work and interact with a variety of internal and external partners in a professional manner.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Strong graphic, layout skills with an artistic eye for composition, color, and use of key art

  • Strong product design skills (e.g. illustrating, sketching, creative application and manipulation of art, and creation of final mechanical art)

  • 5+ years of experience in Product Design

  • Proven understanding of Disney/Pixar brands, characters, stories

  • Understanding of trading card, hobby and collectible categories.

  • Solid understanding of hardlines categories (raw materials, plastic, textiles, print, pattern, graphic composition, manufacturing)

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills along with organizational and project management abilities.

  • Ability to influence, persuade and negotiate

  • Proficient computer software skills (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, MS Office)

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in design related field (e.g. graphic design, industrial design, toy design, fashion design)

The hiring range for this position in Glendale, CA is $113,800 to $152,500 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
