Description of Job

The HVAC trainee position is designed to prepare you for a career in the HVAC industry. During a two year program, you will gain on the job training, performing basic and complex HVAC preventative maintenance tasks and repairs. Any prior experience or training in this field will be applied, possibly reducing this two year program. You will have opportunities to attend various on-line and in person training classes related to HVAC and water treatment. At the end of this program, you will have the necessary experience to apply for an HVAC PMT-1 technician.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

None.

Education and Experience desired for the successful employee:

The tasks performed do not require any specific previous education or experience. However, mechanical aptitude or ability and a willingness to learn are required.

Mechanical ability such as those listed below

  • Use of tools

  • Reading rulers and gauges

  • Proper lifting techniques

  • Mechanical movements

  • Assembly

  • Electrical concepts

  • Attention to detail

  • Interpersonal skills

  • Strong work ethic

  • Time management skills

  • Communication skills

  • Organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Course work in a formalized heating, ventilation and air conditioning apprenticeship program, or higher level, non- correspondence course work in the same field from an accredited vocational school or university or HVAC correspondence course work such as Penn Foster, etc.

  • Residential and/or commercial HVAC experience

  • Experience with preventative maintenance activities such as HVAC, auto mechanics, mechanical equipment, etc.

  • Basic computer skills in order to enter work orders into a computerized work order system, use email and perform basic spreadsheet and word processor computer work

  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication skills

  • Prior state experience is preferred

  • Part-time work will be prorated

Necessary Special Requirements:

  • A current Colorado Driver License is required and must be maintained during employment. A copy of your current motor vehicle record (MVR) will be required as a condition of hire.

  • Must be physically able to perform strenuous physical labor including lifting up to 100 pounds.

  • Must be able to work with chemicals typically used in the HVAC industry, water treatment cleaning agents and steam treatment agents.

Residency Requirement:

Applicants must be a Colorado resident.
