Operation Technology Support Intern

Project Description:

Xcel Energy has an opportunity for a long-term internship within the Operation Technology (OT) Support organization. This unique internship will offer access to work with the AD-Ops Delivery - Energy Management System (PSCO- EMS Team). The successful candidate will gain insight and exposure to the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC)- Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Compliance requirements and be able to support with proper documentation as well as evidence gathering. Over the course of 18 months (20-40 hours weekly), the intern will learn and work on specific requirements within the EMS Team.

AD-Ops Delivery - EMS Organization- The intern will develop skills for Application Delivery area and CIP documentation for meeting compliance requirement and provide support with daily tasks and needs of Transmission Operations as well as Commercial Operations teams.

Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

  • The applicant must be energetic and competent, and willing to commit to a minimum of 20 hours a week over 18 months within the Xcel Energy AD-Ops Delivery organization. The applicant’s graduation date must not precede the completion date of the internship program.

  • Must currently be enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing an undergraduate degree in the field of computer science, management information systems, computer engineering, engineering, mathematics, analytics, or business. Must be a current student. No graduate student applicants, please.

  • Freshman through Junior standing (must not be graduated if senior)

  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)

  • Strong work ethic and initiative.

  • Ability to work well in a team environment.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Must be able to prioritize tasks and has better organization skills.

Minimum Requirements

  • Ability to commute to location is required.

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in computer engineering, computer science, computer information systems, management information systems, mathematics, statistics, economics, finance, accounting, data science, drafting, gas design, electric design, project management, construction management, chemistry, biology, environmental studies, natural sciences, or similar.

  • Recent graduates are not eligible.

  • Any experiences with the following technologies would be desired -SharePoint, Windows, Linux, VMware, MS Office/Office 365, Project Management Experience, Interest in Security & Compliance, and Networking.

  • The candidate should be able to work full-time during the summer. If the intern works during the school year, their hours should be part-time.

  • High academic standing - GPA of 3.0 or higher.

  • January 2025 start date anticipated.

Non-Bargaining

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $20.40 to $27.20 per hour
