The Product Support and Logistics Division (PSLD) is one of the most innovative divisions within Caterpillar. In PSLD, as within all of Caterpillar, our priority is our customers and helping them build a better world. We touch nearly every element of the services value stream from procurement to design and manufacturing to distribution. PSLD is responsible for Aftermarket Parts Distribution of Cat Parts, Integrated Logistics, segment Procurement and the design and manufacture of Wear Components (Undercarriage and GET) and Maintenance Components (Seals, Tubes & Hardware, Hose & Couplings, Fluids and Filters).

Job Summary

The Automation Manufacturing Project Engineer supports process development projects for the continuous improvement of the safety, quality, velocity and cost of manufacturing.

This position is located in either Menominee, MI or Goldsboro, NC and does not provide relocation

What You Will Do

  • Providing technical expertise and guidance in major manufacturing projects, working with internal/external suppliers to support/improve manufacturing productivity and cost effectiveness.

  • Implementing major systems and the coordination of those systems with the total plant.

  • Champions and leads the modernization of the hose assembly manufacturing process thru automated process development and improved manufacturing controls.

  • Assists global footprint of facilities to standardize processes and equipment, as well as their supporting capital equipment purchases.

  • Mentors global team of facility level manufacturing engineers on root cause and implementation of global best practices.

  • Communicating with suppliers to analyze their current or proposed product/process designs to determine feasibility of using existing designs or modifying the designs to improve process and/or product.

  • Providing guidance to manufacturing engineers and operators in order to develop high quality products and processes.

What You Have

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (manufacturing, mechanical, electrical or automation)

  • Problem Solving: Extensive knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations. Comfortable leading change management.

  • Project Management: Extensive knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.

  • Manufacturing Best Practices and Standards: Extensive knowledge of best practices and standards for improving the effectiveness, efficiency, and safety of the design, production, and distribution of manufacturing products; ability to create and implement best practices and standards for various manufacturing processes and activities.

  • Manufacturing Process Design and Development: Extensive understanding of how to develop or design a manufacturing process; ability to establish and determine which processes and parameters should be opted to improve functionality and costs. Experience with automation or robotics.

  • Lean Manufacturing: Extensive nowledge of the philosophy, principles and implementation approaches of lean manufacturing; ability to integrate and implement lean manufacturing philosophy into existing production and management processes.
