The Grand Haven Ambulatory Surgical Center is a 1 operating room and 1 Endoscopy suite facility.  We have 6 pre/post endoscopy rooms, 12 Pre/post OR rooms and 8 PACU bays. Our outpatient surgical center has Endoscopies, such as Esophagogastroduodenoscopies, and Colonoscopies.  We also have services with orthopedic, ENT, general surgery, pain, and gynecological.  This outpatient surgical center does not have a hospital attached all the surgeries are outpatient.  We do not have weekend or night hours. This surgical unit is a great place to advance your assessment skills, work as a team, and be flexible in your assignments.  Our team is highly engaged in patient and staff safety while maintaining high patient satisfaction scores.  We are a team that works well together and adapts to change well.

About this unit

The Corewell Health Butterworth OR department is a level 1 trauma center. The department consists of twenty-one (21) operating rooms that operate 24/7 including supporting other surgical services departments related to IMRI and pediatric areas. The surgical team covers multiple specialties with a focus on trauma, orthopedic trauma, acute care surgery and neurological trauma. Our interdisciplinary team of anesthesia providers, physicians, nurses, surgical technicians, and support technicians offer a high level of expertise and patient care. We also support a high level of technology including the DaVinci , Rosa, and Stealth robotic equipment. The environment offers a strong team atmosphere with comprehensive technology for safe and efficient patient care.

Scope of work

The Surgical Technologist First Assistant (STFA) possessing advanced knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and utilizing extensive patient assessment skills, collaborates with all health team members to ensure the most optimal patient outcome. Performs all activities at and expanded level of surgical technician practice executed with the contest of the nursing process. Intraoperatively, the STFA actively assists the surgeon, performing observable, technical behaviors (cognitive, psychomotor, and affective).

Qualifications

• 3 years of relevant experience within a surgical services nursing department Required

• Successful completion of a STFA certification course, which addresses both didactic knowledge and technical skills Required. The STFA course curriculum is based on recognized core curriculum for the ST First Assistant in which a certificate is awarded.

• AST, NBSTSA, or ABSA Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Required

• NBSTSA Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) Required

• AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required

• AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Preferred
