Job Title: Engineering Manager

Location(s): Grand Junction, CO

Status: Full-Time

FLSA: Exempt

Hiring Range: $130,000 - $160,000/yr. ( The anticipated starting salary is based on minimum requirements for this position. The offered salary will be based upon the selected applicant’s education, training, and experience.)

RSI is recruiting an Engineering Manager to lead the LMS Engineering Group and manage 6 in house staff that provide engineering services to the LM support contract. The Engineering Manager will subcontract and manage engineering service extending beyond the capabilities of the in house engineers. The Engineering Manager is responsible for developing and implementing an engineering group equipped with up-to-date engineering and management tools, technical and managerial capabilities, and operating procedures to execute design projects and consulting services successfully and efficiently. Works closely with management to implement objectives and plans in support of projects. Coordinates project functions with Project Engineers, Geotechnical Engineers, and Design Engineers.

This position is required to travel 25% of the time.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists in establishing project design bases taking into consideration costs, technology, oper-ability, availability, and maintainability.

  • Fully understands the development of a discipline culture focused on performance excellence across engineering projects.

  • Participates with management in the development of business strategies and plans.

  • Fully understands the proposal process and ensures that each discipline properly prepares proposals.

  • Provides assessments of work scope, potential safety problems and special design considerations.

  • Provides technical assistance, reviewing trade-off studies, and providing direction on the basis of costs, schedule, and performance.

  • Manages the development and review of discipline design, work processes, procedures, and guidelines to improve discipline consistency, work sharing effectiveness and performance.

  • Trains and mentor junior staff.

  • May lead aspects of a task or project.

  • Follow procedures and processes.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with diverse teams and stakeholders to achieve project goals.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with key stakeholders, including the LMS Program Manager, LM and LMS Senior Managers, LMS Site Leads, and LM Site Managers. Maintain regular communication channels to ensure alignment with project goals and objectives. Serve as a primary point of contact for stakeholders, addressing inquiries and concerns promptly.

  • Complete understanding of principles, concepts, and techniques in engineering and/or environmental engineering with knowledge of environmental regulations and local utility codes.

  • Skill and ability to perform complex professional tasks and to analyze and develop innovative solutions to problems.

  • Ability to recommend approaches for new and improved processes.

  • Ability to work with broad objectives, with latitude to determine the best way to accomplish tasks.

  • Ability to assist in business development or proposal efforts.

  • Ability to manage a group of professional engineers.

  • Level of language and writing skills, mathematical skills, communication skills, reasoning ability and computer skills necessary to perform essential functions of the job.

Technical knowledge, certifications/licenses, and software proficiency required:

  • Strong understanding of engineering methodologies and principles.

  • Knowledge of industry-specific technical standards and regulations.

  • Understanding of risk management principles and techniques.

  • Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures applicable to the industry.

  • Understanding of project life-cycle management and development processes.

  • Familiarity with emerging technologies relevant to the field.

  • Valid driver’s license.

Required Education and Years of Experience:

Batchelor’s Degree in engineering with a minimum 12 years’ of relevant experience.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

Light Work Category - Work involves moving objects by exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force constantly. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for sedentary work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job/occupation is rated for light work when it requires (1) a significant degree of walking or standing, (2) mostly sitting while pushing or pulling arm or leg controls, or (3) working when the weight of the materials is negligible. (The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production-rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible).

The employee is regularly required handle or feel, to reach, and communicate. The employee is frequently required to move about and maintain various positions. The employee must have the ability to perceive the environment and observe technical material and emails.
