The College is seeking candidates to teach American Sign Language classes in the fall and/or winter semesters on our Grand Rapids campus. Adjunct needs are determined on a semester by semester basis. American Sign Language classes offered at GRCC include SL 171 and SL 172. Only adjunct faculty living in the state of Michigan can teach in person and virtual classes for GRCC.
Adjunct needs are determined on a semester by semester basis. GRCC classes are held at a variety of times, Monday through Saturday. In the fall and winter semesters, classes meet for 1.5 hours twice a week or 3 hours once a week. For semester start and end dates, see GRCC's Academic Calendar.
We offer American Sign Language classes in the following modality: in person. For additional information about these modalities, see the Faculty Contract.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Teach GRCC course offerings American Sign Language. Perform tasks normally expected of adjunct faculty members:
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education Credentials
Master's degree required. Minimum one of the following certifications: BEI, Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) level Advanced or ASLPI Level 4, EIPA 4.0+, ASLTA, NIC, NIC Advanced, NIC Master, CI/CT, CSC. Work Experience
College level teaching experience preferred. Teaching experience at a community college preferred, but not required.
Equipment Use/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Ability to learn and use Blackboard, GRCC's Learning Management System. Training is provided. Excellent communication skills.
Physical Demands
Some evening work (grading, preparing for class, responding to email questions) will be needed. Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time. Must be able to instruct for up to three consecutive hours.
