Assistant Dean of Admissions
Position Summary
The Assistant Dean for Admissions will oversee and manage the admissions process for CHM, ensuring the recruitment and selection of a diverse and qualified student body. This role encompasses a variety of responsibilities including the admission process, external relations, outreach and recruitment, and office management. The Assistant Dean will work closely with faculty, staff, and external partners to meet admissions goals and support the strategic objectives of the College.
Job Responsibilities
40% Admit Class for CHM
Participate in the review of 4,000-5,000 applications to identify suitable candidates for regular admission, EAP programs, and the ABLE program.
Make final decisions regarding which applicants will be invited for interviews.
Balance interview invitations with available resources and manage acceptances and alternate lists to achieve the desired class composition.
Develop and oversee communications to applicants and revise/develop CHM-specific application materials and guides for reviewers and interviewers.
Orient and monitor the performance of student and faculty interviewers.
Participate in interview days and facilitate the Committee on Admissions component of the review and selection process, including attending committee meetings.
Ensure compliance with LCME standards related to admissions and participate in accreditation preparations.
Prepare reports of activities and outcomes for CAC and faculty meetings.
Collaborate with the Committee on Admissions, OMERAD, and Academic Programs to establish parameters for acceptable applicants and coordinate with the MD/PhD program.
20% External Relations
Contribute to and update Admissions website content.
Engage with AAMC and other external parties regarding admissions policies and practices.
Represent CHM in interactions with COM, WSU, U of M, and new medical schools in Michigan.
Manage internal and external inquiries about applicants and admissions.
25% Outreach, Pool Enhancement, and Recruitment
Conduct active outreach to potential applicants in order to build a matriculating class that supports MSU CHM’s strategic plan, mission and values.
Promote MD/PhD, ABLE, LMUN, RPP, PPH, MD/MPH programs.
Maintain relationships with EAP partners and strategically develop new partners across the state of Michigan.
Oversee and update web-based and hardcopy admissions-related information.
Create and update presentations for Interview Day and recruitment events.
Host recruitment events with support staff and oversee advising for potential and unsuccessful applicants.
Engage in cooperation and competition with in-state medical schools to develop a diverse applicant pool.
15% Office Management and Other Duties
Develop and manage the admissions budget and maintain fiscal responsibility.
Participate in the selection process for scholarships designated for incoming students.
Liaise with other CHM units such as Communications, Development, and Government Relations, and Outreach, Diversity, and Inclusion.
Oversee the maintenance and development of the admissions database and facilitate responses to data retrieval requests.
Contribute to various areas within Academic Programs and formalize committee rules and regulations as needed.

Required Degree
Doctorate -MD, DO Ph.D., or similar terminal degree in a relevant field.

Desired Qualifications
Proven experience in admissions, academic program management, or related fields. Strong understanding of medical school admissions processes and standards, including LCME requirements. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
