Peckham, Inc. Security Ranger in Grand Rapids, Michigan

The Security Ranger position performs duties to protect the Peckham, Inc. facilities from unauthorized entry, theft or harm, as well as ensuring its occupants’ safety. This position issues and deletes identification badges and locker assignments, provides key and parking control, verifies the identity of persons entering the building, inspects packages as directed, and responds to emergencies using established methods and procedures. The Security Ranger position will evaluate and identify situations and use initiative and quick judgment to determine available alternative actions. This position monitors video security and alarm monitoring systems, security records, provides escorts within security sensitive areas, and provides requested copies of captured security video imagery as requested.

Onsite at our Grand Rapids location from 2:30pm - 11pm EST.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Greet persons entering the building and screen for accurate identity of staff, team members, vendors, visitors, and all persons on Peckham Inc. property using excellent hospitality skills.

  • Investigate unidentified persons on property and request unidentified persons apply for identification at the desk. Explain Peckham’s entrance requirements having persons leave the premises if they refuse to comply.

  • Receive and record emergency and non-emergency calls for security. Screen and direct incoming calls. Route emergency calls appropriately.

  • Keep updated on corporate security trends, Peckham emergency policies/procedures, and attend trainings as needed.

  • Perform building patrols and monitor facility/personnel for unsafe conditions.

  • Respond to medical emergencies and provide basic first aid and/or emergency care.

  • Provide escorts for vendors, contractors, and other external parties within security sensitive areas.

  • ABILITIES AND OTHER DUTIES include the following:

  • Ability to express ideas and facts in a clear and understandable manner, tailoring communication to the intended audience.

  • Ability to maintain control and assume leadership, responding to incidents calmly, reasonably, impartially, and tactfully while maintaining an accurate record of the incident.

  • Ability to recall facts and figures.

  • Ability to be decisive, show initiative, and make quick judgments under hectic situations.

  • Ability to operate basic security equipment.

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Teams.

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in regards to work performed, the ability to positively handle multiple interruptions and adjustments to priorities throughout the day, and the flexibly to handle multiple responsibilities while meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to work with a variety of persons of diverse backgrounds.

  • Must have excellent organizational and customer service skills, be able to demonstrate a professional, pleasant, caring style, and sound work ethic consistently, and be willing and eager to acquire new skills.

  • Utilize a team work approach for all projects.

  • Promote Peckham’s vision, values, and services to all customers and stakeholders.

  • Assist in maintaining organization wide quality standards.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

MINIMUM QUALFICIATIONS

  • High School diploma and 1-3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • This position requires a CPR/AED/Basic First Aid certification. May be acquired after hire.

  • Ability to pass and maintain a federal MRPT (moderate risk public trust) security clearance and background investigation.
