University of Michigan Health-West Trauma Injury Prevention & Community Outreach Coordinator in Grand Rapids, Michigan

University of Michigan Health-West (Formally Metro Health) is looking for a part time Trauma Injury Prevention & Community Outreach Coordinator.

This position has responsibility for the infrastructure and processes to ensure identification of community needs, development and provision of community injury prevention classes, and documentation required by ACS as a verified level II Trauma Center needed for program evaluation. This position also serves as the injury prevention representative on regional and state committees as needed. This position has no responsibility for providing care to patients. This position will work closely with the Manager of Trauma Services, Community Outreach Department, and local and state Injury Prevention Coordinators.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's Degree in following areas preferred: Nursing, Epidemiology, Public Health, or Health Related Fields.
  • Experience in Trauma, Quality Improvement, or Community Health preferred.
  • Valid Michigan driver's license without restriction affecting performance of job responsibilities, or valid out of state driver's license without restriction, with the expectation of obtaining a valid Michigan driver's license within 6 months from date of hire into this position.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including, but not limited to: Microsoft Office (Word and Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a customer service focus
  • Ability to function independently with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge and experience with copier, Fax machine, scanners, and printers.
  • Demonstrated skill in project planning, organization skills, management, and building collaborative relationships preferred.
  • Experience in teaching classes preferred.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Injury Prevention Program

  1. In collaboration with the trauma manager, develops programming and activities related to preventing injuries and violence among those in our community, based on identified needs.
  2. Provides the manager with monthly and annual statistical, fiscal, and narrative reports.
  3. In collaboration with the manager, submits requests for obtaining grants, administers the funding, monitors progress and provides needed reports.
  4. Develops an annual injury prevention plan for injury prevention activities, including program goals, targeted audiences, strategies, and documentation forms utilizing the required ACS templates and requirements.
  5. Uses evaluation tools to monitor effectiveness of all injury prevention programs.

Injury Prevention Classes

  1. Identifies and pursues opportunities for injury prevention classes.
  2. Assists in the production of educational materials and marketing tools for community-based programs.
  3. Develops program contents and methods of delivery for classes, utilizing evidenced based programs whenever possible, including objectives, and pre/post evaluations from participants.
  4. Provides and oversees the delivery of injury prevention classes, particularly addressing the top three reasons of injury in UMH-West trauma population.
  5. Acts as the lead presenter and trains volunteers and others to do class presentations.

State/ Local Trauma Meetings / Committees.

  1. Attends and actively participates in local, regional, and state meetings related to injury prevention.
  2. Participates in trauma related UMH-West meetings as needed.
  3. Serves as the injury prevention resource / expert for trauma services.

Community Outreach liaison for Trauma Services

Coordinates trauma injury prevention efforts with overall Community Outreach programs
