Position Overview

Welcome to the role ofShop Technician I.

In this position, you will provide general labor for a variety of projects including assembly, fabrication, and mechanical applications. This position will be responsible for performing basic repairs, troubleshooting, and building new products according to drawings.

This individual should

have a basic knowledge of mechanical applications and general construction trades and must become familiar with the products and services offered by Pillar Innovations.

This position must be flexible and willing to work extended hours as needed and may require infrequent travel to customer sites and/or with overnight stays.

What You'll Do

General Duties

  • Exercise safe work practices
  • Perform work to complete jobs in a variety of areas
  • Learn to read and interpret drawings and specifications
  • Maintain a clean and organized shop area
  • Assist with maintaining inventory levels
  • Learn to set up rigging to hoist equipment
  • Prepare and layout tools and materials for jobs according to specifications
  • Assist with cutting and threading pipe as needed
  • Prepare finished products for shipment
  • Assist with on-site installations as needed
  • Learn to perform basic troubleshooting
  • Load and unload trucks, tools, materials, etc. as needed
  • Learn how to safely and effectively utilize a variety of hand and power tools
  • Complete training to become a Competent Operator for equipment such as skid steers, lift equipment, etc. as needed

Assembly

  • Learn to mount steel components, pumps, compressors, piping, etc.
  • Learn to assemble pipe and tube structures
  • Assemble basic structures including metal, aluminum, plastic, etc.
  • Learn to assemble more complex systems such as conveyors, compressors, pump stations, ovens, etc.
  • Learn to properly adhere labels, stickers, etc. per construction drawings
  • Organize and place items in products as needed

Fabrication

  • Learn to cut and prepare finished metals
  • Assist with basic welding and grinding
  • Learn to identify, lay-out, position, and secure parts and assemblies according to specifications
  • Assist with ensuring fabrications or assemblies conform to quality standards and specified design
  • Modify existing structures for customized builds
  • Learn to bend pipe and tube as needed

Mechanical

  • Assist with organizing tools and materials for assembly and installation
  • Learn to interpret mechanical drawings and documentation for custom machines, systems, and products
  • Assist with assembling machinery using bolts, welds, rivets, or otherwise fasten them to foundation or other structures
  • Assist with the final assembly of systems such as air compressors, pumps, motors, instrumentation devices, etc.
  • Learn to properly align equipment
  • Assist with system startups and final commissioning as needed

Working Conditions

  • Stand for an extended period of time
  • Walk / use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls / reach with hands and arms / crawl / kneel
  • The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
What You'll Bring

Previous experience and/or education in general construction, mechanical and/or fabrication work preferred

Ability to work under minimal supervision, within broad guidelines of procedures and goals

Experience with various measuring devices such as straightedge, combination square, gages, tape measures, etc.

Ability to read and follow manuals and SOPs (St ndard Operating Procedure)

Ability to read and interpret bas
