Job Summary

The Career Program Manager position is responsible for overseeing, coordinating, and supporting career and technical education and community outreach and engagement programs for the Communication Arts, Humanities, and Fine Arts Division, including but not limited to supporting curriculum projects, the development of new workforce and community partnerships, assisting with marketing and outreach efforts, and providing coordination and support to all COMDV internship programs.

Under the supervision of the dean, the Career Program Manager will oversee, refine, and expand communication arts, humanities, and fine arts career programs; coordinate and implement projects through cross-functional collaboration with faculty and staff across the College; and support practices, programs, and initiatives that may include, but are not limited to, consultation and execution of academic program expansion, enrollment marketing, and special projects; leading or serving on pertinent task forces, committees, and working groups; and, collaborating with external partners.

Required Qualification(s)

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business/Management, or any Communication Arts related discipline with five (5) years of work experience ANDtwo (2) years of supervisory experience.

OR

Master’s degree in Marketing, Business/Management, or any Communication Arts related discipline with five (5) years of work experience.

  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to plan and prioritize work requirements and demonstrate independent decision-making capabilities.

  • Experience working with students from diverse ethnic, socio-economic and educational backgrounds.

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

  • Ability to work flexible hours including some evening and weekend hours consistent with events or student needs.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other similar software.

  • Ability to develop and enhance collaborative partnerships to aid in recruitment of students.

  • Ability to plan and organize outreach events.

Summary of Essential Functions

Operations Management | 40%

  • In collaboration with Educational Affairs coordinate product expansion and revision efforts at the division level.

  • Serve as the division’s liaison with key College departments for initiatives related to enrollment marketing and managing special projects.

  • Support the dean and department chairs in developing and maintaining the COMDV events and programming calendar, as well as coordinating with James Lumber Center and PR and Marketing staff to ensure consistency and alignment in communication and outreach for these events.

  • Coordinate with the Wright Community Art Gallery Curator and faculty in planning community outreach and engagement events, including workshops, planned talks, art residencies, etc.

  • Work with faculty and administrators college-wide to leverage existing and future COMDV events to promote other CLC programs and services.

  • Assist the dean and faculty by serving as a liaison to employers and government and community leaders to understand current and future trends relating to career training.

  • Actively engage with organizations that promote Lake County community development to learn about the trends in the county and how those trends affect the department’s offerings.

  • Assist department chairs with recruiting/maintaining off- site partnerships; coordinate internship placements for students; schedule meetings with community partners and division department chairs/faculty and staff.

  • Serve as a liaison between program faculty and key departments in Workforce and Community Partnerships and Strategic Advancement.

  • Support strategic exploration in key career and technical education departments for program creation and revisions. Assist career program faculty in program development, revision, and exploring new delivery modes.

  • Define needs for market research and coordinate that research with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Planning and Research and other sources of market intelligence.

  • Assist the program department chairs with the development of strategic marketing plans; assist with community outreach to K-8, high school and other community partners; and work with the College of Lake County’s Career and Job Placement Center with the coordination of various outreach activities.

  • Survey alumni, employers, and career advisory committees to identify current trends and employment information that allows for overall continuous improvement the division’s career programs.

    Project Management/Program Development | 30%

  • Manage key career program projects for division. These projects will include the implementation of several components of the visionary program expansion for the division.

  • Provide coordination and oversight to key support staff

Personnel Management | 25%

  • Assist the program department chairs with the development of strategic marketing plans; assist with community outreach to K-8, high school and other community partners; and work with the College of Lake County’s Career and Job Placement Center with the coordination of various outreach activities.

  • Assist faculty with all required reporting to maintain assessments, accreditations, and evaluation processes to ensure they are current and complete.

  • Assist the Department Chairs in coordinating career program advisory committee meetings.

  • Support all CTE open labs and studios, including staffing and scheduling of student workers in collaboration with department chairs and division staff.

  • Work with division social media intern(s) and PR and Marketing in developing and executing digital campaigns that align and support strategic goals of department and division.
