St. George's University Staff Accountant in Great River, New York

Staff Accountant

The Staff Accountant provides support to the Business Office and the Accounting Director and assists in the preparation of financial statements and reports that accurately depict the current financial position; ensures the timely, accurate and efficient analysis, communication and reporting of financial data in accordance with GAAP. The Senior Accountant works closely with other staff members to complete month end closing of financial books and records.

Essential Functions

  • Prepare reconciliations and analysis of balance sheet and income statement accounts, including the preparation of supporting documentation as required.

  • Assist in the conduction of the Financial Audit for some of the company’s subsidiary entities

  • Prepare all journal entries for some of the company’s subsidiary entities.

  • Preparation and filing of NYC Commercial Rent tax.

  • Assist in processing student refunds on a weekly basis.

  • Prepare bank reconciliations and follow up on outstanding items as necessary.

  • Responsible for recording and reconciling all compensation related aspects of the company including payroll, performance bonus, vacation and sick time.

    Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Dynamic individual with strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and written/oral communication skills needed.

  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple assignments concurrently.

  • Detail oriented and able to work in a meticulous, thorough and detailed manner.

  • Experience in using SAP Concur travel, expense and invoice management tool

  • Ability to navigate and create simple queries in Microsoft Access

  • Proficient in Microsoft ExcelMust possess the ability to assume non-routine tasks and to take initiative where appropriate and possess a strong follow-through on all projects with the ability to bring projects to timely completion.

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.

  • Minimum of five (2) years of accounting experience.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • This job is performed at a work station in a positive, creative and collaborative environment that may sometimes become quite noisy.

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets.

Hours and Travel

  • A typical work week is 37.5 hours Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm.

    The anticipated salary range for Senior Payroll & Benefits Specialist is $59,500 to $70,000. The final salary offered may vary and will be determined based on factors such as the job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and education of the successful candidate. This information is provided per NYS local law.
