Position Overview:
As the Rail/Switching Peer Trainer, you will be responsible for providing expert training and support in all aspects of rail operations, rule compliance, switching, and locomotive operating activities. You will serve as a key resource, offering insights, cultivating best practices, and communicating changes/updates to rules and compliance to all team members. You will be regular communication with the Rail & Switching Subject Matter Expert, as well as working collaboratively with other various support teams to enhance operational safety and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the primary point of contact for New Hire Team Members in training, providing support and guidance to Team Members.
Proactively follow industry trends, regulations, and best practices related to rail transportation operations.
Provide strategic input and recommendations to enhance the efficiency, safety, and sustainability of rail operations.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement process improvements, standard operating procedures, and training programs.
Conduct audits, assessments, and observations of rail switching and locomotive operators and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
Act as a mentor and coach for team members involved in rail operations, providing guidance and support to refine their skills and knowledge.
Act as a steward of the role, embodying the best practices and standards of rail switching operations.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial rail transportation and switching operations, with a proven track record of success in a similar role.
In-depth knowledge of rail operations, including safety regulations, equipment, infrastructure, and best practices.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify opportunities for improvement and implement effective solutions.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and Savage leaders.
Demonstrated leadership abilities, with experience leading cross-functional teams and driving results in a fast-paced environment.
Certification in railroad operations or transportation management is a plus.
Prior training or mentorship experience preferred, with a track record of effectively guiding and training peers.
Technical Skills:
Comprehensive Knowledge of Rail Switching Procedures: Proficient in all aspects of rail yard operations, including safety protocols, operational efficiency, and equipment handling.
Proficiency with Rail Operations Software and Tools: Familiarity with industry-specific software and tools for planning, tracking, and executing rail switching tasks.
Locomotive Operator Qualification : Certified and experienced in operating locomotives, with a thorough understanding of locomotive operations and safety standards.
Interpersonal Skills:
Excellent Communication Skills : Ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences, both orally and in writing.
Strong Interpersonal Skills : Capable of building and maintaining professional relationships with team members at all levels.
Training and Development:
Training Certification: Certified or willing to become certified in relevant training programs and methodologies.
Proactive Training Approach: Demonstrated initiative in identifying training needs and developing comprehensive training plans to address them.

Leadership Qualities : Proven ability to lead by example, with a commitment to fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Role Model : Acts as a steward of the role, embodying best practices and standards of rail switching operations.

Willingness to Travel : Ability and willingness to travel to various sites to conduct training sessions and support local teams.
