North Carolina Agriculture & Technical State Unive Autonomy and System Integration Specialist in Greensboro, North Carolina

Description:

This position serves as the Autonomy Specialist for the Center for Regional and Rural Connected Communities (CR2C2) and its associated laboratories and projects.

The person hired for this position is responsible supporting autonomy, system integration, and information technology equipment, hardware and software systems used for autonomous vehicles, and network and communication system architecture for research, instructional and technology transfer, and development and deployment of AI-enabled tools for autonomous vehicles and robotic applications.

Work involves the advanced use of software and hardware tools to support the development, deployment, and operation of autonomous vehicles within CR2C2 and its associated laboratories and projects.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit:

North Carolina A & T is a public land grant high research activity university that enrolls over 13,300 students. The University is committed to dedicated teaching and learning, scholarly and creative research, and effective engagement and public service.

The Center for Regional and Rural Connected Communities (CR2C2) was initially funded by U.S. Department of Transportation in 2023. CR2C2 will serve as the Region 4 University Transportation Center ( UTC ) charged with addressing transportation challenges within the southeastern region of the United States.

Requirements:

  • MS degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering or related area, specializing in Control and Robotics and Embedded Systems or bachelor’s Degree in these disciplines with 2 years of relevant experience with extensive experience on embedded systems and autonomy applications.

  • Expertise with core infrastructure elements and how they interrelate to provide a cohesive computing environment for advanced AI tools for autonomous vehicles, edge computing, and cloud-based computing.

  • A strong theoretical and experimental background with evidence of skills related to

  • control of autonomous and robotic systems.

  • Capable of skills in writing scientific papers and technical reports,

  • Extensive experience with implementing control of robotic systems and embedded systems

  • Strong programming skills such as Python, C++, and ROS .

  • Extensive experience with AI tools, OpenCV, computer vision

  • Extensive experience with autonomous vehicle sensors such as Radar, Lidar, camera, GPS , etc.

  • Possess a high level of initiative and the ability to multitask and address technical issues and troubleshooting

  • Possess good organizational skills; detail oriented.

  • Able to prioritize tasks effectively.

  • Demonstrated integrity, dependability, and competence.

  • Able to work independently requiring minimal supervision.

  • Able to make presentations utilizing excellent oral communication and facilitation skills.

  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred:

  • MS or PhD Degree in electrical and computer Engineering or related disciplines.

  • Project management experience.

  • Experience with project management tools and software.

  • Extensive experience with deployment of AI models

  • Extensive experience with embedded systems

  • Ability to work independently as well as be an integral part of a team.

This position may be eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement, consistent with university and state policies. N.C. A&T employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
