Job Description:

We approach problems with creativity and innovation. The Boise, Idaho office is seeking a Field Engineer to support our engineering group. We are seeking a qualified individual to spend up to two years in the field on an exciting water infrastructure rehabilitation project. This temporary field assignment will include over-night shift at our client’s job site. This challenging and rewarding position requires flexibility, dedication, and attention to detail. The candidate could report to our Boise, ID or Greensboro, NC office, but the project location is in Columbia, SC. We may also provide relocation assistance for the right candidate. This opportunity is a collaboration between multiple Schnabel locations to include Boise, Greensboro, and Columbia. The right candidate will be considered for further opportunities following project completion.

The Boise office of Schnabel focuses on the evaluation and design of dams, structures, and facilities within our dams engineering group. Example projects include the design of fish hatcheries, surface water intakes, pump stations, dams, outlet works, pipelines, and fabricated gates and valves for projects located across the United States.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Key member of the on-site Construction Management/Quality Control and Quality Assurance team.

  • Successfully interface and communicate with Owner, Schnabel engineering staff, and contractor(s).

  • Participate in problem solving with the design engineering team, construction team and owners during construction.

  • Participate in periodic meetings required by Contract Documents and produces required documentation.

  • Track physical progress, schedule, quality control and budget, and reports to Owner.

  • Utilize project contract management software and document management system to effectively capture and organize all project reporting and correspondence.

  • Position requires travel and possible temporary relocation to project site(s) throughout the United States for extended periods of time.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • A Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent from an ABET-accredited institution.

  • U.S. Citizenship or Green Card. No visa sponsorship will be provided.

  • 2-5+ years of engineering experience.

  • Successful completion of the EIT

  • PE license or future ability to become a Licensed Professional Engineer.

  • Ability to lift 60 pounds and be physically able to negotiate construction sites, enter trenches, climb ladders, and work outside.

  • Experience and interest with the following types of water infrastructure projects:

  • Gates & valves

  • Dams

  • Hydropower plants

  • Pumps stations

  • Intakes

  • Large diameter pipelines, fittings, pipe supports

  • Machine design

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

  • Have a positive attitude and work well in a team environment.

  • A strong work ethic and the desire to perform professionally at a high level.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record, credit check.

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
