The Professor/Chair of the Electrical and Computing Engineering department is the academic leader and chief administrative officer of the department. In collaboration with the ECEN faculty and staff, (s)he is charged with leading, recruiting, and mentoring the faculty and staff to advance the department’s research, teaching, and service mission. The ECEN department chair is responsible for the success, relevance and continued progression of the Electrical and Computer Engineering department and the competitiveness of its graduates. Aligned with the college’s and university’s strategic plan, the chair ensures the vibrancy, operations, synergistic collaboration and competitiveness of the department to achieve its goals. The ECEN Department chair is also responsible for budget development, management and allocation; the assessment and accreditation of ECEN programs in alignment with ABET requirements, and ensuring the relevance and execution of the instruction and research of the department. The ECEN Chair is also charged with promoting the Department through alumni, donor, and corporate engagement and ensuring the competitiveness of its graduates.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit:

The College of Engineering at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University invites applications and nominations for this key leadership position. North Carolina A&T State University is a public land grant university that enrolls 13,487 students.

The College of Engineering, with 2,402 students, has EAC ABET -accredited undergraduate programs in Architectural, Bioengineering, Biological, Civil, Chemical, Computer, Electrical, Industrial, and Mechanical Engineering, as well as a CAC ABET -accredited program in Computer Science. At the Graduate level, the College has 8 Masters of Science Degree programs, and 5 Doctoral programs. Additional information about the College and the University can be found at www.ncat.edu/coe.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is one of the largest departments in the College of Engineering with 478 students in its four degree programs. The four programs are a BS in electrical engineering, a BS in computer engineering, an MS in electrical engineering, and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering. There are 18 faculty members in the department.

Requirements:

Qualifications include PhD or equivalent terminal degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Electrical and Computing Engineering or a related discipline and an established record of teaching, research and professional accomplishments.

Qualifications for the appointment of the rank of Full Professor are required. Proven leadership abilities, and a strong record of scholarly work and extramural funding are required. The successful candidate will be a leader effective in bringing teams of people together and supporting them in their efforts to accomplish important tasks on time and within budget.

Applicant must have a minimum of six years of demonstrated excellence in teaching and creative/research activities consistent with eligibility for appointment at the rank of professor and some administrative experience relevant to the position. We are looking for a service-oriented individual with excellent people skills and the ability to motivate faculty and staff toward shared goals.

The next ECEN Chair should have a solid research portfolio in one of the disciplines associated with the department; be forward thinking, collaborative and results driven; and have relevant experiences in building win-win partnerships.

The preferred candidate will demonstrate experience in innovative curriculum development and successful grant management. The successful candidate will be an imaginative and inspiring person, who possesses a distinguished track record of scholarly accomplishment; administrative experience; and appreciates the integration of learning, discovery and engagement. Experience in growing engineering programs and doctoral programming is preferred.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills; a strong record of effective organization and administration skills with demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a team member.

Professional Engineering License is desired but not required.

    This position may be eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement, consistent with university and state policies. N.C. A&T employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
