The Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education ( VPUE ) reports to the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and provides strategic vision and leadership for the many facets of the undergraduate educational experience, including academic and co-curricular activities.

Working closely with the Provost, deans, department chairs, other administrators, faculty, and students, the VPUE develops and articulates components of the academic affairs divisional implementation plan grounded in Preeminence 2030: North Carolina A&T Blueprint.

These components include commitments to prepare students to be cross-disciplinary thinkers by engaging in innovative scholarship marked by critical and creative thinking, community and global engagement, cutting edge creative work and research experiences, entrepreneurial endeavors, excellent pre-professional endeavors, certification and licensure, overall well-being; as well as a sense of community.

The VPUE leads the Office of Undergraduate Education ( OUE ), a unit comprising three Cadet Corps (Air Force ROTC , Army ROTC , and the Space Corps); Pre-professional Scholars Program; Office of Undergraduate Research; Title III Academic Excellence Enhancement; Office of Accessibility Resources and the Office of International Affairs.

The VPUE also supervises the liaison to two high schools operating on the campus of N.C. A&T — The STEM Early College and The A&T Four Middle College. The VPUE supports training and enrichment of department chairs to facilitate student success.

In recognition of the importance of a whole-student approach to the undergraduate experience, the Office of Undergraduate Education works hand-in-hand with other units and divisions to ensure the overall student experience is positive and transformational.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit:

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (N.C. A&T) is an 1890 land-grant high research university that prepares students to advance the human condition and facilitate economic growth in North Carolina and beyond by providing a preeminent and diverse educational experience through teaching, research and scholarly application of knowledge.

N.C. A&T is the largest historically black college or university ( HBCU ) in the nation and in US history; and its enrollment exceeds 13,800 students; approximately 1700 of whom are graduate students. The students are served by more than 800 faculty, teaching at the baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral levels.

The Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education ( VPUE ) s a senior-level position and the individual in this role is expected to work with a high level of autonomy, individual discretion and professionalism.

The VPUE functions as a representative of and may be authorized to act on behalf of the Provost. In accordance with the university’s vision, mission, and strategic focus, the VPUE interacts closely with department chairs and is actively engaged in developing and/or supporting processes and policies that enhance undergraduate education and student success.

Requirements:

A doctorate or other terminal degree from an accredited university and eligible for tenured faculty position at the rank of associate professor or full professor.

The Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education must be an accomplished leader with (Suggested) 10 years of higher education work experience related to high-level academic planning, academic leadership, and budgetary experience needed to drive initiatives that provide critical commitment and support for academic initiatives that promote learning, innovation, and creativity.

The VPUE must act in a manner that maximizes the skills and talents of others to achieve goals that benefit the overall organization.

The VPUE is expected to demonstrate commitment to teaching and learning, research, community engagement, academic integrity, diversity and intercultural understanding, and collaborative and participatory decision-making.

This position requires excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred:

An earned doctorate with at least 3 years of relevant experience at a senior management level.

Former experience as an academic administrator in the areas of student success and experience is preferred.
